Help! Anyone else havin a problem with mini airbag light on?

Hi All,
The airbag light on my 02 Mini Cooper is permanently on, there have been no accidents or bumps to cause this. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to reset it or will it cost me a trip to the local Mini dealer to sort it out?

Did it suddenly come on or have you vacuumed under the seat/pushed something under the seat recently? You will need a reset tool or trip to someone who has one I suspect. If it's like the other BMW ones your airbag will be inactive whilst it's on

The lights been on since I bought it, with all the excitement of finally getting my dream car, and not being used to the dash set up on a Mini I didnt realise there was a prob with the airbag till a day or so later when I went through the manual doh. Looks like i'm off to the dealer to get it sorted then. Thank you for your quick response.

If it was on when you bought it I'd make a point of saying to the dealer...they usually charge like a wounded rhino otherwise

i had a 51 plate cooper from new and i think it was in 4 or 5 times for this fault along with many others, i got rid in the end cos of the faults.

i think it was due to a connection wire under the seat being too short and becoming disconnected when you move the seat quickly
