Abarth 500 Promo Vid

Fiat unleashes Abarth 500 teaser on YouTube

Haven't they heard of CAD?
Haven't they heard of CAD?
Fiat has unveiled a promo video of its much anticipated new 500 Abarth, set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

The promo is working overtime to remind you of the original 500’s racing heritage, which no doubt the new car ‘captures the spirit of’, or something like that.

The new Abarth 500 uses a Fire 1.4 16v petrol Turbo engine, which delivers a maximum of 135 bhp at 5,500 rpm, and peak torque of 152 lb ft at 3,000 rpm in ‘Sport’ mode, while in ‘Normal’ mode, torque is reduced to 180 Nm 132 lb ft at 2,500 rpm.

The promo video, that has appeared on YouTube, unfortunately lacks much more than we have previously seen, relying more on design sketches and old footage.

However, if you are an Abarth-head who will happily lap up anything the company can throw at you in anticpitation of the new car, this will be right up your street.

We particularly liked the line ‘The Abarth version was kicking ass,’ from someone called Gutmann, who features on the video. Quite…

135bhp from a turbo'd 1.4? sounds measly, don't think that'd stand up to the similarly engined punto (gt?)

They are aiming it at the min cooper atm, so it duznt need as much power as that, neva know, they could then do an even hotter version to compete with the cooper S and renaultsport clio? like you i hope they do, would def b on my wish list then!

And it does look pritty meaty atm, and wider and it would start looking like a Renault 5 Turbo1

In another post on PH someone said the following:

"Standard car comes with 130 bhp, you can up grade with an officially supplied kit consisting of wheels, brakes, suspension and re map which gives you 160bhp. All official upgrades have to be fitted by Abarth dealers. You also can't have the 160bhp with the rest of the kit"

This sounds promising. I trust it can be retrofit as there will be alot of pissed of 135hp owners if its not

There is going to be a 155brake esses (SS) version, and a dealer fit kit to raised the power to near 200 brake.

Dont know how much tha Abarth will weight but the stock 500 is 860KG.

If the 155 SS version weighs the same then its around 180hp per ton. If they can do some weight reduction of around 80KG it would push the figure towards the 200hp per ton area which is not to shabby

i looked on the top gear website, and they said the esses kit is a dealer add on to the standard car which puts Bhp upto 180Bhp.

And as its a dealer fit option you could have it fitted after you have already brought the 135bhp standard car.

If you're interested in facts rather than hearsay over the Abarth models - especially facts regarding when they will be arriving in the UK, have a look at my UK based Abarth Blog http://abarthuk.com

Cheers!

Erm, discussing the power output of the 500 Abarth is like discussing the boot space of a Lotus Exige - completely missing the whole point of the car.

Lol at all these posts demanding more power! Have you driven the standard 500? It's so damn small that much more than 135bhp would make it a right handfull. To make it work they'll have to do something serious with the suspension and chassis; it's really comfy but shocking for dedicated driving. Far too soft and detached. And the electric steering is god awful too, even in 'sport' mode. Artificial weight = eurgh.
I say leave it as a cute city car and don't give the boy racers any cause to ruin its image.
