Vinyl wrap sir.....
Discussion
I just paid £525 to wrap all wings on my Aero8, on top of this I paid 2 hours labour to take off a previous wrap, done last October, which apparentley came off really cleanly.
A great way of doing something different whilst maintaining a straightforward (read saleable) colour. But be aware, when looked at closely (3 or 4 ft) it is obviously a wrap and blemishes will show. The first wrap I had, whilst still obvious was far better than my current one done by the same company but a different guy. Car will be going back to be re-done in a couple of weeks.
Hope that helps

To wrap a car is it around £8-900 but cost goes up loads if you are having printed graphics on said vinyl.
We get involved on the odd vehicle wrap and £800 - £1000 should get you printed vinyl's applied to your car.It shouldn't have a detrimental effect to the paintwork. We used to supply BSM with their decals and they were on for about 8 or 9 months and left no trace of having been there. I would suggest that you don't leave part wrapped areas of your car exposed for a long time though as the UV rays will create a slight difference in colour from the areas that are wrapped and not exposed to direct sunlight.
I think if it's done well it can look good, but it is a specialist market as it can easily go wrong and look pants.
Mogul,
Thanks for that! I would only consider a solid plain colour and certainly no graghics.....Would also only do the whole car, any idea of cost?
Hope you don't mind a couple of questions:
How is it affected by exhaust fumes and sone chips as my car runs without cats and seriously chucks out some fumes!! Have to clean the rear frequently to get rid of the yellow hue...is it resilient to stone chips?
Many thanks
Jason

You can't polish the vinyl, if you scrub too hard you'll damage it and it will look rubbish very quickly. However you can use normal car cleaning detergents which won't effect the finish. Like any film it will help stone chips leaving the paint underneath chip free. Thanks for that! Prices vary for the whole car. I'd recommend DDI in Norwich. Speak to a guy called John Hendy on 01603 439894. They teach people to do this and if they don't do a good job, nobody can.
They'll also be able to give you a firm quote based on the car.
John's not been at DDI (known as Totally Dynamic) for a few years now but they are still doing some great wrapping from what I hear and see.
check out their website http://www.colourmycar.net/go/case-studies.html
They still train others to wrap so very good quality.

Yup, I'm aware of that. He had a relationship with a bottle that did him no favours so I understand.check out their website http://www.colourmycar.net/go/case-studies.html

Dam you all!
I'd nearly completely discounted a wrap as a solution to my itchy shopping finger. I'm 100% happy with my E46 M3, however still have an urge to swap it for something else.
I think that a set of coilovers and a vinyl wrap could be just the ticket to renew my enthusiasm for my car ..... There really isn't anything close to its value (and therefore my budget) that compares IMO.
Really interested to hear stories, costs and view pictures for wraps that people have had done.

Mat,
dont u dare go for white!
Is that what you have chosen then? dont u dare go for white!
After seeing an E92 in white with black wheels, I was actually drawn towards a white car. I hunted around for a long time for a white car when I was buying, but the only one I found for sale was silly money.
I was also a fan of Laguna Seca as well, but couldn't find a car I liked that didn't carry the colour inside as well.
Maybe something completely away from the BMW colour charts?
As mentioned in the above posts, a Wrap can be done for £900 + the main things that increase the price are the size of the vehicle, the type of finish you want (plain colours cheapest, metallics/ pearls more, printed/ carbon is more again) and how far you want to go (door shuts etc)
I'd be happy to answer any further questions you have or to quote you by e-mail/ PM/ Phone.
Cheers,
James.

Sorry to labour this point, but can anyone please advise what you can expect of your paintwork when the wrap is removed after say a couple of years.
It would really help if someone has actually done this.
I have Jerez black M3 which I no longer love (colour that is) and fancy something lighter in colour or perhaps a frosted / frozen colour option, but if I'm honest the the orange GTS with gloss black rims on my screen saver looks very tempting or IND have produced a really nice lighter metallic blue.

in a few weeks i'm getting a vauxhall brava for my work, I'm having it sign written but they cant do the grass that is on my website, (www.ukgroundcare.com) it only needs to be 6 or 12 inches high or so. does anyone know a company near Coventry Birmingham or surrounding areas that they can recommend.
We did grass on the bottom of one of our customer`s vans. We`re a good hour from Brum though. www.purplelettuce.com
I'm suddenly less enthusiastic about a wrap, especially after reading the (2nd hand) report of the Lupo owner that pealed large chunks of laquer off of his car when he removed the wrap.

Like any industry, there's top quality places and materials, and there also quite a few lower quality and corner cutters and also the down right cowboy level places out there.
I went to one of the longest and very best in the UK for my roof wrap that I did prior to the UK's '2009' craze of personal car/enthusiast car wrapping. I phone plenty of places asking for a vinyl that was the same as what was used for vehicle wraps in a Carbon Fibre design. Many calls ensued, and only one place at the time could do it. I had it done and never looked back, perfect in every way. I put pictures up on a forum and within hours, I had messages from all over the world (mainly USA!) at who and how it was done!
The point is simple, take it to a place who know what they're doing, have plenty of experience and you can do your own bit by inspecting the paintwork on your car's condition. If it's good, then a correct and top and correct grade vinyl will not pull paint off. The risks of this happening is where the wrong grade of vinyl is used usually.
Finally, a free plug for Totally-Dynamic, and in particular, the Enfield North London branch where I had mine done. 100% customer service, all questions answered and prompt fitting. I went here after getting 2 Smart car total car wraps around 2005/6. Give them a call, discuss ALL your concerns and take it from there.
Cheers, Dennis!
