It seems to be an ongoing saga, but the 206, which is looked after properly, serviced when it should be etc, has had the same fuel injector (#1) replaced 3 times in the last 14 months. This morning, without warning, that lovely engine diagnostic warning light came on again, followed by the engine revs bouncing all over the place and now running on 3 cylinders (revs from 500rpm aka stall, to 1500rpm and back again).

The same Pug dealership has dealt with each instance of this, and said it's rare for fuel injectors to fail.

So - my question to the PH Frenchy car massive...has anyone else had the delights of this problem, multiple times?

Do you know exactly what Injection system it is running?

I wouldn't know TBH, only that it's MPFI, and the 1360cc 8 valve petrol lump.

The slight issue is that it started playing silly buggers only after I'd driven to work, so it's currently 40 odd miles from home, and it wont take kindly to being driven anywhere in it's current state.

Not sure if it helps answer the injection question but I suspect the ECU will be something like the Bosch MP 7.2 (is that motronic or something??) if it's the same as my 1.6 8v; they're very similar engines but for the capacity.

I drove my 206 home 25 miles when the coil pack failed, on 2 cylinders, so I think you should be fine to do the journey on 3. Neened a smooth throttle, and lots of revs to pull away.

Good luck let us know the result! You could always try an independent place which may or may not have a more varied experience of problems such as this?

That happend to me last week on a VTS.

I dont think its a common problem though, perhaps it's 3rd time lucky? wink
Used injectors are cheap enough, managed to get a pair for £30. And as far as I know they are an easy fit on 8v units.

Quite common check the injector colour and go to your local breakers they are very easy to change and you can probably get four for the price of one new one.It may be worth having a new fuel filter fitted in case the one thats on is degrading internally.

If its affected the same injector again its likely to be the electrical supply side of the injector thats causing this as fuel would likely affect other injectors.
these suffer from voltage spikes back to the ecu from the coil packs and create all manner of problems revving up on its own being one of them.
you need to check the supply to the injector, good multimeter or less accurate but a good indicator:try wiring a side light bulb inline on the supply and check for a steady pulse,look especially for pulses brighter/longer than others,
solved a few this way but it usually has done damage to the ecu by then.

Ta chaps, the latest is...

Eventually I managed to get to the dealership and drop it off. In the meantime I've been issued with the standard sh*tbox 306 Derv, with a sticking throttle pedal and not enough diesel in it to get off the forecourt...

In terms of the injector, I explained that if it's the same injector again, I cant see why I should have the pay the full amount for another fix. Admittedly, it's 2 months out of parts warranty, but this will be potentially be the 4th injector in 14 months (and at no point have they mentioned any other part being at fault).

TBH I haven't a clue as to what they do in terms of diagnosing faults, so long as they don't accuse me of 'rallying' again, causing 'water ingress into the fuel rail'. There was mention of the dealer putting in a claim to Pug to reduce the repair/replacement cost, but that was probably to stop me venting at them at the time...

Again, ta muchly chaps, another saga update when I hopefully get the money pit back.

Not sure if it's the same thing but my 206GTi sometimes sounds like it's misfiring,it's had a couple of diagnostics which don't indicate that anything is wrong.I had a replacement coil pack? fitted-it runs better but not perfect.The next step is to replace the injectors one at a time. Apparently this is not unusual, I go to an independant Pug specialist who is very helpful and looks after his customers-unlike Peugeot. Hope you get it sorted!!

The situation is...

The car's still at the dealer, who diagnosed it as being another injector failure (same one that's failed 3 times previously). Also, a mullered coil pack and leads. All in all...£305 to fix. A small reduction on labour costs given that it's a constant problem it would seem.

The next time something falls off or goes wrong, it's being donated to Top Gear, who will hopefully fire it from a large cannon...

Yes- I know exactly what you mean!!! I was thinking more along the lines of Pug v Sherman tank!
