Heading down to Eastleigh today from Winchester on the M3 and was in the outside lane passing some slower moving cars. We were doing below 70 (a temporary 50 on the illuminated signs in the central reservation) when a Merc 4x4 comes up behind me and flashed at me .. I couldn't get over as there was no space and so carried on passing the cars I was passing ... more flashing ... then leaning on horn from Merc driver.

There was a car in front of me so I couldn't do a damn thing and he closed up right on my arse so I just dabbed the brakes gently to bring on the brake lights - more horn ensued from Merc.

I pulled in to the middle lane as soon as I could to let him past and as he came level with me both he and his bimbo bitch in the passenger seat were mouthing insults at me so I flipped them the finger. Next thing is the bint in the passenger side launched a (full) 1.5 litre bottle of Coke out if the window at me ... it hit my car on the A-post and would have come through my side window and have hit me as I had the window open as I was having a ciggie at the time if I hadn't braked.

As it was it hit my A pillar - scooted over my roof and the car behind me had to swerve to avoid it.

I had the guys number and reported it at Eastleigh but had a phonecall later saying the car was registered in Buckinghamshire and the Bucks police weren't interested in following it up. The real pisser is that just round the bend from Jct 11 was a marked car pulled up on the hard shoulder obviously doing some bloke for speeding! GRRRRRR!

Never heard of engine braking then eh!

You put yourself in a no win/no win situation there.

Some times the BAD guy will ALLWAYS win. MoJo.

The problem is, that them illuminated signs are only advisrory and not the speed limit.

If it aint got. a red ring round it then it aint madatory.

so admitedly hes a ass hole. for chucking the coke and getting too close.

but technacly you were hoging the outside lane 20 miles an hour under the speed limit, for no reson and gave him the finger, hence winding him up even more.

as them signs are only to advise. Not to set a speed limit.

best thing to do is if you want to stick to the advisory limits, is get in the nearside lane as soon as you can or you will get no end of that.

Nope ... I was in the outside lane as I *WAS* passing slower moving vehicles and was keeping up with the flow of traffic in my lane. I know that the illuminated signs are only advisory. I had a car in front of me so I couldn't put my foot down and get past the cars to my left quicker and the only way I could have got in was to cause the drivers to my left to take action if I tried to cut in.

I guess I'm just a bit p*ssed that it seems that its OK for chinless wonder muppets to throw sh*t around on a motorway...

my mistake for reading post too quick m8.

one note its not up to plod to folow up.
just lean on em a bit.

your best chance is if you had a wicness in the car with you.

make a complaint about what happen againg to the police.

if the BIB wont take the complaint.

then ask for there rank and number then
make a complaint about the bib on the grounds of neglect of duty.

It is absolutely NOT OK. And the arrogant to55er who did it needs to be taught a lesson. Since you reported it and the Berks police don't want to follow it up I suggest you write to your MP asking WHY the Berks police don't want to follow this up. Write to the cheif constable detailing why you are concerned that such an individual could be on the roads - one day they may actually hurt someone.

Throwing that bottle was a potentially lethal act.

Shocking.

DO NOT LET THIS GO!

WHAT!

This is shocking.

What if that full coke bottle had bounced off your car and hit a biker, chances are there would be disasterous consequences in that case.

Not on. Is it any bloody wonder people tkae the law into their own hands? What's the bloody point in having a Police force that you can use to help you?

What's even more shocking is that the Buck's Police can't be *rsed doing anything about it. At the very least the bloke in the Merc should get a visit. You should have reported him for doing 31 mph in a 30 limit, that would have got their attention.

Cheryl Gillian, MP for South Bucks (or is it Chiltern?) takes a keen view in police inactivity.

I know from past experience she doesn't stand for it

BTW - I think that'll be Thames Valley Police....

I *CAN* see the point of view of the police - after all it is just my word and there *IS* bugger all that they can actually do however I would have considered that a brief word to the registered owner of the vehicle explaining that a complaint had been made wouldn't have been expecting too much.

I was pretty miffed though when the desk seargent at Eastleigh said "It's not exactly going to be high on our list of priorities though." to me when I actually filed the complaint.

Over the last three or four years I've seen a marked increase in really stupid things going on on the roads - I rack up about 40k miles a year and it always irks me that there is no real way to report dangerous acts. This one just went a bit too far in my opinion and so I decided to try to follow it up and now realise why no-one else bothers!!!

Do you have his number plate?

If you do you can trace the vehicle.

And then, as the keeper, send off for as many porno/sex aid catalogues as you can.

Sit back and smile....

Unfortunately, you probably need an independent witness to justify any Police action. Otherwise it is just your word against his, and he/she will deny they threw the bottle.

In situations like this you have to be very sharp, and take the reg. no. of the vehicle, and try to get at least one from any vehicle around you that is likely to have seen the incident. Not easy, but there you go.

Do you know, reading this post has just reminded me that I may have seen a dark blue Merc hurling a bottle of something out their window at a passing car...

Well there are a lot of PHers in the South Bucks area so we can all keep our eyes peeled. Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross are the first two areas to look - every housewife has an M class.

The plate is stored in my Palm and I'll be watching out.

LOL - A friend suggested the same last night, apparently he'd been following me in his car on Sunday morning as I was showing him where the B&Q was in Eastleigh.

I wouldn't do that though as it's just not "right"...
