After my wife try to imitate Mr Hamilton Snr last Tuesday (though in her defence it was in standing water) my 993 is in the body shop. I saw a picture of a targa in Peter Morgans book with the rear grill painted the same as the body cover. Has anyone on here done the same? Can you buy them primed (as apposed to black plastic)? I've seen the 'S' kidney shaped ones but i think they make the non 'S' look narrow.

Thanks....i would post the picture but i can't work out how to do it

painting plastic is no real problem to a pro bodyshop

What he said. Ask your bodyshop. They should know how to do it.

colour coding entirely depends upon colour IMHO

I've seen it on a silver car. It looked good.

the best place for a spare spoiler is ebay.

My red 964 is coloured, and Dave (Caveman on Rennlist) borrowed the idea on his silver 993 and had that done, his cost about a ton at the coach works in Cressing...name escapes me, it looks good, and better IMHO that the S with its centre bar which is visually too heavy..

seeing as they will be painting the PUs they will have plasticised paint in the gun so 'can' spray the spoiler - plasticisers are added to the paint as plastics have different thermal expansion rate to metal body panels

no doubt it will need to be primed first in order for the paint to key onto the spoiler

not sure how much the grille costs but maybe you could get your existing one painted and source a used one as a spare at a later date

it's worth noting the spilt unit, as found on the 2S, will fit in a narrow body car as the engine lid and grill apperture are the same dimensions smile

40 euro's does not sound dear. How much is a new one from porsche. As long as the bodyshop use the correct
plasticiser's the paint will bond fine.

40 euro's ! i was expecting £200 from an OPC, i guess there can't be that much difference between two plastic mouldings in terms of quality.

Thanks for the advice

The only thing is, it may be fiberglass rather than plastic but any good body shop will get the finish right

These are always appearing on ebay and in the classifieds on Pistonheads

,,,the body shop I use says that the spoiler grill can be painted successfully but it is a fiddly job....I am thinking of getting the split spoiler for my C4....costs about £195 plus VAT from Porsche Parts....plus about another £100 for spraying.

I had mine done, on a Zenith Blue 993 C4S - it really brings the car up to date and looks factory (like the 993C2S) click on my profile to see a picture.

Its simple to take the spoiler grill off, it is also bonded, so this needs to be pulled off.

I had it sprayed and re-fitted by a local body shop for £100 - best mod ive done on the car.

PM me if you want more info

thanks

....I thought the C4S already had a split colour coded spoiler....I think I am not going to change mine to the split spolier but get the standard one colour coded instead later in the year wnem I will also have some bubbling seen to round the edge of the rear screen.

No the Split Rear spoiler was only on the C2S, this marked a special edition.

The C4S had the standard, black plastic grill
