This will probably get locked quick-smart but I'll give it a try..

Friend told me he is gay, I thought nothing of it,

Until on the Radio this morning, May and Hammond were plugging the new Top Gear series.

Hammond was talking about a trip to Glastonbury, he went with his Wife Mindy, May and his "partner", doesnt sound much in text but the way it was said way very coy, as if he was skirting around an issue?

If he is, dunno why they arent open about it?

Nice to have a non-mincey (Alan Carr/Graham Norton etc) gay on telly.

I reckon he might be, but really not too fussed - agree nice to have a break from the uber-camp crowd.

I'd guess that if he is gay he's being fairly cautious about it because a) it really isn't relevant to what he does and b) the media/redtops storm that'd ensue if he properly came out would probably be more trouble than it's worth.

'Partner' sounds better than 'girlfriend'. Assuming he isn't married to this 'partner' in which case, maybe he is masking something

For some reason, when people say girlfriend, it just sounds rather childish. Maybe he just uses 'partner' to sound a bit more grown up.

I also believe his partner is female, I can't remember exactly why but I've read a number of his articles and when ever he mentions "the partner" it's always as a female (she, her etc).

However I think it's a great way to see how much of PH the top gear lot read and we should start a rumour that he is Gay and see how long it takes for JC and RH to mention it on the next series of TG.

But that's probably a really crap idea in reality, just sounds good after a couple of beers.

I refer to my "girlfriend" as my Mrs as after 5 years she may as well be.. as said girlfriend sounds a bit young, partner's usually used by gay people *the 2 gay people I know refer to "partners"* or others to refer to business partner.
