Just been down to APM about my coolant loss problem... and it turns out that it's the head gasket thats gone

I can't beleive this, this is the 3rd time the engines been shagged and only 2000 miles since a complete rebuild. Its an engine out and back to Blackpool job again.

TVR better be very accomadating when I call them up on Monday !

B*llocks !

Sorry to hear this.

You haven't had much luck recently - what with the accident as well. (Has the TP's insurance coughed up for the repair?)

I hope you get a speedy resolution, but, don't forget the factory goes back to work Monday after their two week break - so, there maybe a back log of work.

Neil.

Cheers Neil... Yes the 3rd party made full payment in the end (over £31k in the end )

Car is still driveable at the moment...but I hope TVR can get me in as soon as possible. Got a long wait until Monday to find out my fate

Bandit sorry to hear of your woes.

Look at recent postings on the tuscan forum tells its own story, TVR HAVE to get this engine right.

Regards

Chris

PS I think your profile should be required reading for anyone going into TVR ownership.

Bad news, bandit, I hope it gets turned around ASAP.

One positive note - at least TVR customer relations, and willingness to get things sorted quickly and/or FOC, seems to be a lot better lately. A small not of comfort, I know, but my glass is half full, not half empty!

Good luck!

I've just looked through the notes on this car and it scares the hell out of me. Obviously some of these costs are being paid for under the warranty but it suggests to me that this speed six seems to still be having more than it fair share of problems.

Are there any V8 owners who have these problems or are most of these problems with the engine confined to the speed six.

I seem to remember last year a thread on problems with the speed six engine but I thought, or got the impression, that this was solved in most cases.

Bandit:

Just saw the title to this thread and hung my head cos you've been through so much with this car.

Can't think of any words of comfort really. Just read this car's history in your profile and those figures are enough to put anyone without deep pockets off a Cerb for life.

Well nearly ...

Chin up!

I think most of the problems Cerb owners tend to be the old niggle (electrical/leaks), they seems to like starter motors and clutches, but it is a supercar so not surprising I suppose. Regarding the ajp v8 there was a car recently advertised thats done 88k miles (without rebuild) so its a strong unit. I like you thought issues regarding the sp6 had been largely solved esp the latter 3.6l version, I'm sure most drivers have no probs but recent visits to the tuscan forum is making me think twice about a future move from Cerbera to Tuscan ownership.

Cheers for the support guys,

This Cerbera certainly has had its fair share of problems... I've stuck with it, as I was fairly sure that nothing else could possibly go wrong with it !

Don't think I could part with it now, especially after all the modifications and upgrades that its had.. its basically a brand new car.

I'm hoping that very soon it will start behaving itself!

As to costs, I think I was naive when I first bought the car and let a dealer charge me for all sorts. The costs have gone right down since I've been using APM (and I get better service!!). Also remember that I've done over 20,000 miles in this car, lots more than most people do...but yes, I'd still be very concerned about buying a Speed Six engined car, there's no way they've sorted the problems.

I'll keep you posted as to what TVR want to do about this !

The V8s seem to be holding out reasonably well - some pretty good mileages are being racked up without any issues. I too got the impression the S6 was sorted - back in 2000? Anyway, its still the same - "theyre fine now, definately sorted" then a few threads like this appear.

I feel sorry for anyone who has had to put up with these problems, but I feel even more sorry for those who buy these cars without knowing about thier issues.

Good luck bandit - seems that there isnt anything else TVR havent replaced on that car? perhaps its time to ask for a 4.5Red Rose to be shoved in there??

Assuming it is 'just' the head gasket then hopefully it will be a quik fix and you will be motoring again very quickly.

Cheers BB and Gazza.

Update: TVR are going to cover shippage of car and fix of engine problem free of charge. Also managed to wangle the car to the front of the queue...so hoping for a quick turnaround.

Car should get picked up tomorrow. At least TVR have been pretty good about this.... well done fellas. .. just put the bloody engine together properly this time !!

Out for a run yesterday and I stopped in at a "local" TVR specialist for the first time in quite a while.

They have three Tuscans with engines waiting to go back to the factory, one has been waiting all summer. Seems the factory will only take back one at a time from a dealer/specialist.
