Im sure by now anyone who has frequented Ebay for Esprits have come across the yellow 88 made to look like a V8 Esprit, with 90k on the clock and seeling for $24 grand. what a joke. I emailed him about that told him I noticed this is like the 4th time maybe more it has been listed. I said with 90k on the clock, and the for the price hes asking is just silly. Plus I added, no one would want to buy an Esprit made to look like something else. I basically scolded him for doing something so idiotic as a full V8 body kit. I mean these cars are presitguos and here he is ruining the marque by essentially mismatching the car like its some sort of Honda or something. What a shame.

So he writes me back and goes on to tell me in a nasty manner that he does this to all Esprits he buys and sells for a quick profit and that I should go get laid, and that the Esprit is the biggest piece of shit car he has ever owned and he only buys them to make money from them since the general public will fall in love with the looks and buy without knowing anything about them. THEN, he adds how the Lotus is nowherenear prestige and might as well be in the trash and he starts comparing prestige to the likes of Ferrari and Porsche. And finally he states, how he is a millionaire and has more exotics than I can count and that I am the one who sees the inside of a Honda, and he "never will, unlike you".

I wish I kept the email from last night, I deleted it by accident!

Imagine that eh. hahaha the Nerve of that man. It just pisses me off how he is basically buying Esprits, making them look like crap and ruining their whole aura, AND selling them to unsuspecting people.

First of all I understand what you are talking about when it comes to certain cars with great history and technology, like Ferrari and Porsche but a Lotus is one of the biggest pieces of shit cars I have ever driven (and I've owned and driven the ones from the 70's tot he 2000's) so this is does not have the prestige you are talking about. And having over 3 million dollars in Exotic cars I will never see the inside of a civic in my entire life, but I'm sure you have. So did you get some action yet? It will loosen you up a bit.

Post it to the Turbo list.

I knew that guy was a jerk.

Unloading inferior cars at a premium price or those that need a lot of help by slapping on cosmetics with cheap paint. I bet he has not done a thing mechanical to them.

A**hole that he is.

The Morris Marina door handles are a big give away to it's age.

Not only that, but anyone who paints a car one color, notice the back valance surrounding the plate area is yellow, its most likely a VERY cheap spray.
Not only that, if you look at the pics, the lining of the bumpers are off by a noticeable difference AND its a salvage title!

I am not registered on the turbo list, so feel free to copy and paste and let people know.

Your right, he has probably done NOTHING mechanical to the car. I just feel bad for whoever buys it. But apparantly it gets alot of bids but no one taks it since this is like the 4-5th time its been posted. You can just tell by the interior thats its not that great as its made out to be. Hopefully people interested in it are smart enough to compare prices with age and mileage.

I noticed you had Ponys on your '89 GT. What happened to the Turbines?

for someone who has broad claims, he shows little true knowledge.

Real ferrari guys know the value of fcar is about art and aura not fiat parts of dubious quality. Porsche is mainstream and doesnt swim exoticar waters.

Lotus Esprit is actually a technological masterpiece. Getting incredible handling, world class performance from a tiny motor and a stunning shape is a difficult task with the computers of 2003 let alone 1970. Ask a real ferrari guy just how fancy they are... he he he

Fools will undervalue them, but the cars will slip through the open fingers and find a way to a true owner....

I'm not sure if you folks noticed or not but the title on there says "salvage". I'm all over buying that beastie - NOT!

If you want to have some fun with the guy; go bid on the car $1 over the current asking (don't worry, you won't end up with it, the reserve is not met yet), then go paste the letter he sent you in to his feedback (you have to bid in order to do this). He can't change it once it's in there. I wonder how many takers he'll get after they read that?

Oh dear, am I being a mean boy today

Hi,

Your initial post to the guy may have determined the way in which he responded.

No need to tell him how silly his Made-Up car is, he'd be bound to learn that soon enough when the item failed to either sell, or to achieve the price he wants to get.

He knows that it's not worth the price, but, it seems he also knows that, as P.T. Barnum coined: "There's a Sucker Born Every Minute". I bet that eventually he will unload it and if he does, the guys who buys it is getting exactly what he deserves as well.

Some moron with more money than brains will be dazzled by the glitter and get exactly what he deserves. We'll probably get to know him too as he's likely to join the list in hopes of trying to learn how he can transplant a hopped-up Mazda Rotary into it, lower it to within 0.3 inches of the ground, put a sattelite TV in it, add DayGlow Neon wheelwell accent lighting, adapt a Cessna Wing for the rear and make it even better yet!

No need to confront guys like this, simply let market forces have their way with him. To anyone contemplating buying this piece of junk, Caveat Emptor should be the phrase of the day. But, in the end, someone will acquire it and it'll be back on Ebay within six months. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

You guys just just had me cracking up so hard right now. I should so do that, bid $1 and post his message. I'd probably get sued or something LOL

Jim, You are right in what you say there. It just really annoys me to think that that Esprit is probably going to be run into the ground and sitting under someone blue tarp needing an engine rebuild, rotting away.

Solar - Very well written. Cant wait for the day one 'slips' into my possession.

At least lotuses are alot safer than those shit box ferraris!!!! And it does not cost a v8 lotus owner 5000$ every time it needs a tune up. And we can see are cars every day, unlike a ferrari that you may get to see once amounth.

Just so you guys know...

The seller, Wicked Motor Works (or whatever) deals only in "suspect" cars. IE: Salvages, very high miles, and no-history cars. His yellow salvage title NSX is famous. I wouldn't touch an NSX that has been wrecked with a 100' poll...Aluminum work is almost impossible to get correct once hit like that. It's also been resprayed cheap, and is very "dark" on the history.

re-bodied porsches, etc. end up there. They are low-end dealers, and 99% of the stuff they sell is junk. Stay away at any cost.

Always wonder about a car sale where the bids are hidden... so people can't inform the bidders of this guys BS.

Very true indeed. Like I said, I feel sorry for the poor dude who drops that kind of money on an Esprit thats probably never had any TLC before. What a nightmare that will be for him, and then to find out for the same price or a few grand more he could have gotten a very well sorted Esprit. This will surely ruin that persons thoughts of Lotus.

Oh dear what a mess. The worst thing has to be the ENORMOUS gap between the rear wheel and the arch. Do you have to fit spacers to retrofit S4 wheels or something because they look like another pair of front wheels plonked on the back. I bet it doesn't handle properly. Looks like a blind man put the front bumper on and the door even looks wonky. Its probably worth a few bob just as a project car but the new buyer better have stacks of cash or be a competent mechanic. God knows what is 'out of alignment' or simply 'out of place' under the engine cover...

The body work is a joke. The gaps can be seen in every picture as you have noticed as well. The bumpers dont even line up. Do you think I would get sued for slander if I bid $1 just to post the email he sent under his feedback.

Lotusacbc,

I don't think that will work. I'm pretty sure you have to be the winning bidder to leave feedback. Feedback is only for winning bidders and sellers.......
