Website Q: Stretch across screen?

Hey there,

I'm looking to increase the amount of PC repairs I do, so have thrown together a WP site. However, the theme only takes up a small part of the screen. Images are fixed width, so is it just down to me running at a huge resolution?

The website in question is: http://www.northwestpcrepair.co.uk/ which is running Wordpress as I'm nice and lazy .

This isn't the ideal theme, I had one called MistyLook however whenever I replaced the header image it would mess up dimensions etc. If anyone would like to knock me up a quick logo for a few quid, let me know.

Looks fine on my laptop, but there is black space at both sides and the bottom on my desktop screen.

Everything seems to be a fixed height and width, which is going to make it look odd on large screens and need scrolling on small ones.

I've changed it back to the original theme now.

I don't know why but when you upload an image for the header it wants it to be 809 X 190px but then crops and squashes the image. Any ideas?

The CSS acting on the image sets it to 200px high and then applies a 10px top and bottom margin. The different ways that browsers interpret the border box model means that the outcome won't necessarily look the same in IE vs Firefox. That said, it looks ok to me in IE7 and FF3.

Can you post up the original picture? I can't see anything wrong with the one on your site.

The container width is 780 and the picture height is set to 200, with 10px margins all round. So in theory 760 x 180 should work fine.

Its on the site now. Created in Paint.Net where it looks fine. As soon as you upload it thru the theme config it looks ste.

I knew I recognised it, I nicked it off DaFont.com. I think I might get one of the 90 artists in this building to knock me up a logo .

Could you recommend an alternative font that would suit, as I am aware of the possibility of Rockstar throwing their toys out the pram.

but when I upload it, it makes it weird.

I think its because it doesn't actually insert the image in the usual way, the theme turns it into a background image, hence it messing up the quality etc.

Wordpress is a super platform for a cheap and easy content managed site, like yours.

I'm not a massive fan of the logo - do you really need your company name twice, once in the header and again in the image.

For something that looks "cool" try slicing a section out of a larger imagine, a bit like this:

Thats actually a bloody good point. Ideally I'd like to thin down the image, so it isn't so thick too.. Hmm

What do you think now? I'd like it to be a bit thinner. More of a division rather than a big focal point. I'll have a look at the code.

Just a personal observation, but for the image you have ..... is it worth having something PC related in some way?

I don't see the connection between smoke (or jellyfish) and PCs - unless it's to do with PCs blowing up
