Corsa C Warning Lights...

Just wondering if anyone here can cast some light on the problem. The engine warning light on my Corsa 1.2 has appeared, and i don't know why. I was hoping someone might have seen this before and have an idea what it could be before i go to a garage and thus have my life savings extracted from me.
It had a complete service only a few months ago, and i've checked oil/coolant etc. Im losing some coolant, but not much and the oil looks clean and uncontaminated. The car sounds OK, and the fuel consumption's good and it pulls away etc fine(if i may use such a word in the same thread as '1.2 Corsa').
I may well just be being thick and have missed the obvious. To perhaps throw a little extra confusion in, the service light came on intermittantly a week before (though its not due for one), and was then replaced by the engine warning light.
So, any thoughts gratefully recieved...!
