drivers electric window not working

hi
we have a 52 plate mini cooper,drivers window stoppped working on wednesday doesnt even drop the 1/2"
when you open the door, took the door panel off and it looks like the motor has been out before (scratches around the srews) checked the power and we have 12v over both connectors depending on if you switch it up or down and you can here a relay clicking but window doesnt budge.this problem appeared out off nowhere one day it worked the next it didnt?any ideas

Its almost always the window motor that has seized.

You COULd do the alleged bang the door trick, but it's really not hard to take the armature out, and give it a buff. google for the cheap mans haynes manual.

thaty said, I had to replace the drivers motor recently on the missus' 02 mini, was short on time so had my eyes taken out by garage =(

Yep, give the door a good bang a couple of times; worked a treat on mine and been OK ever since.

Thanks to this forum, I have just hit the door above the speaker on my 02 mini one yellow and whaaayayyyyyy window working fine, now going to tell the missus and get a pat on the back at least. :-)

I have just watched a very helpful video. Though I would share the outcome. My drivers door window stopped working on a r53, I tried all your ideas on this forum non of witch fixed the problem. The video said try moving the window switch side to side and up and down. It fixed the problem straight away. Hope this message can help someone else.
