My wipers have taken on a will of their own. If I press the washer button briefly I should just get one sweep, but the wipers keep going for 5 or more sweeps - it's not consistent either, sometimes one sweep, sometimes twenty. On the intermittent setting they just sweep continuously but do speed up if you press the switch through the first speed to the faster setting - trouble is getting them to stop! When they do stop, they do park correctly though.

Initially I thought ribbon cable to steering wheel switches, but everything else is behaving itself, and the wipers always switch on.

Hmmmmmmmm, this is interesting (obviously not for you as its probably just annoying). My wipers have started to act up also but mine are doing the opposite to yours i.e. they stop wherever they want. If i use the intermittent setting they will work at first then stop either on the wrong side or wherever they feel like and also when using the wash function (constant settings work ok). I assumed these symptoms to be the park switch also? I suppose they could both be if one is faulting closed circuit and the other open circuit? Sorry i cant be of any help but i will be watching this thread with interest!

The wiper park switch is located on the motor itself. It has to be THE most inaccessible item on the Cerb and the replacement of which cost me most of the skin on my right hand, and a decent portion of same from my left.

I would say don't bother. Instead try one or all of the following:

  1. Clean the screen and apply Rainex
  2. Never drive slow in the rain (the rain will bead and clear off the screen itself)
  3. Don't drive in the rain.

I have just changed my park switch, I thought it was one of the easier jobs on a Cerbera, it is a SP6 though so the V8 AJPs may be a bit different.

As far as I remember there's a "black box" associated with the wipers located down along the steering column, just above the pedals.

May be worth having a look at that.

I'd be suspicious of the ribbon lead though.

This one is down to the wiper park switch.

Not sure about the first post, sounds more like a ribbon cable or control box issue....

Yup, as Mars says, it's bloody fiddly as, on my 2001 4.5, you have to take the cooling-system header-tank off to get at the switch which is one-way clipped onto the motor. Switches are available (quickly) from Clever Trevor's site

Some people have quoted 2 mugs of tea for the job but I think it took me about five biggrin

Obviously with Chrimbo, I haven't delved further into this yet, but will do next week.

Just to let you know that the ribbon cable was last changed in Spring of 2004.

Like to drop in every now and again to see if Popping Tod is still alive!

( My daughters name for it. I had lots of names for it!)

Update.

Was at Dulford Automotive this morning and it's the control box. Swapped boxes with another Cerb out there (thanks Rxxxxxx, navy blue Cerb!) and the box needs a rebuild.
