Is there any difference in the MTX75 Gearbox. Gear ratios, bell housing etc or are they all the same?
I have decided to do the LSD upgrade so I want to buy a new box and get the gears shot peened.

I have thought about a Six Speed conversion, has anyone attempted it for themselves? was it a ball ache? what sorts of cost was it?

I'm doing it as part of my upgrade. As i understand it, lower wishbone, dent in fuel tank helps, new gear cable set up..

Have you had any costs on the parts yet, wishbone and gear linkage.

Wishbone about £130, although the 5 speed wishbone can be modified to fit.

Gear linkage kit, i had a few kits made using an original kit as a master, so have a few in stock.

"Is there any difference in the MTX75 Gearbox. Gear ratios, bell housing etc or are they all the same?"

Considering that in another post it was mentioned that we can't get the MTX75 anymore (New), I to would like to know if there is any difference as the box has been fitted in many escorts fromt he early 90's.

Might want to take a spare with me to OZ so wouldn't mind knowing what Fords ours were fitted to or if it matters?

Martin, don't know if there are variations of the MTX75 however the gearboxman tells me the Pt No is 1206944 if that helps?

The MTX-75 gearbox used by Noble was not modified apart from LSD on later cars, Its simply a standard Ford gearbox and easily recondioned by any gearbox specialist for a few hundred of your hard earned pounds. It is true that Ford no longer manufacture the MTX-75 but they do still stock all the internal components required to recondition/repair. DONT BE FOOLED in thinking that the 6 speed gearbox in any more reliable than the 5 speed.

There are many variation to the MTX 75 box so I'm told by ford. This is the info I got from a very knowledgeable from ford parts uk.

Ford MTX75 Part Number 1206944.This Box was only fitted on the very first of the MK3 Mondeo Up to 15-10-2000

Apparently this is now obsolete and the replacement is P/No 1232410. fitted to the Mondeo From: 15-08-2000> With a 3.82 Ratio

Both part numbers are now Obsolete

I'm not convinced this is the right one. I've been looking into this subject extensively of late and as Bondy says above, the MTX75 variants that will work in the Noble are Finis Codes 1206944 or 1232410. The former part can be supplied by Ford for £954 + £200 (surcharge - refunded when you return your existing box plus the good old VAT) however on a back order basis. No commitment as to how long this could take.
I emailed the eBay seller to verify Pt Nos and he told me the info on the box was: Blue Label XS4R-7201-DB08.00 19.52.34D2M2A Casing, 97ZT-7F096N5LUA. Green Lable, P97ZT 7002 GAW14288 C1.
I don't recognise any of those numbers so suspect it's another variant which will have different gear ratios and final drive etc.
For further info, the ratios you are looking for in the 5 spd are
1st 3.42
2nd 2.14
3rd 1.48
4th 1.11
5th 0.85
F/Drive 3.82
