My son works for ITN. When the Speed 12 was going to be driven through London for the launch of a computer game I got him to get me a press pass. He turned up as well with a quality camcorder. The assumption was that I would ride in the Speed 12 and he would film from the support vehicle.
As soon as my lad saw the car he was in it and in the dark and in a van with ramps between me and the driver I had to learn how to operate the camera. Not easy.
But it was a great view, following the car through traffic, along the embankment and then through back streets. It was a good day.
At one time they stopped for some outside filming. A middle-aged cleaner was looking at the car, obviously impressed by it. I told her to go up to it and take a good look. As she got to it the driver started the thing. She screamed and dropped her shopping bag.
But everyone looked at it. Most broke out in a big smile.
I might start talking to my lad in a few years.
He sat in it again when it was at the Motor Show. That was painful for me.

It's for sale at the moment http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C42712I did some work at TVR in the final days and by my reckoning they did a good trick of painting a few of the cars different colours at different times... IIRC the road car was created by butchering the remaining cars to create on e good one

The original purple one wasn't a runner and I think was used as a buck for making moulds. The moulds still exist but I'm not sure what happened to the buck. The purple ones as said above ended up being butchered to build the one for sale and I think the white one or a derivative of that went to Japan without an engine. A lot of the bits have been bought by someone who is a TVRCC and PH member. He intends to build up one car at least but it's a massive job I suspect.

Can we put this to bed once and for all, with the help of V 8GRF and B S i know what happened the pretty little primrose griff prototype(chopped up !),can we now sort this one out. there were at least 2 early speed twelves because whilst there are photos of the white one as above,i have a photo with 2 purple speed twelves(early ones) in it.one is a road car,one a race car.Performance Car ? did a big article at the time on TVR and quess what the purple road car is pictured to the best of my memory belting down the fast lane of a motorway.at the time i thought thats the car to get slow drivers out of the fast lane.the picture of it approaching in the rear view mirror looked plain evil hence why i always thought Darth Vader should have driven it.anyway where are they ? or were the bodies destroyed and the chassis converted into the Cerbera Speed Twelves ?
