600bhp GT-R

Tuning companies squeeze more from hardcore Nissan

Japanese tuners HKS and Power Enterprises have revealed rival takes on the art of extracting maximum performance from Nissan’s latest GT-R.

First up is the street-legal GT570 package from HKS, one of Japan’s longer-established tuner firms with a history of GT-R tweakery running back to the 1989 R32 model.

The GT570 Sport Package is a development of an existing GT570 Racing Package designed originally for the track, which includes a new exhaust system, reprogrammed ECU, upgraded plumbing for the turbo and intercooler, a sequential blow-off valve kit, reinforced actuators and new spark plugs. Designed to boost output to 570PS at around 6,600rpm, the Racing Package is not road legal as it fails to meet emissions standards. Hence the arrival of the GT570 Sport Package, which adds a new high-flow stainless steel catalytic converter and upgraded wastegate actuators to bring tailpipe emissions within accepted limits. Parts will be available from HKS stockists later this year for both 2009 and 2010 model GT-Rs..

Meanwhile Power Enterprises has taken a more radical approach to ‘ultimate’ GT-R performance, launching its awesome Quad-Charged version at the recent Tokyo tuning show.

The company claims up to 600hp from the conversion, which basically adds a pair of Rotrex C30-94 superchargers to the existing twin IHI turbocharger installation, as well as high-flow fuel injectors and a massaged ECU.

The two engine-driven compressors are designed to pack greater low-end grunt into the GT-R’s delivery before the turbos get up to speed, apparently for ‘maximum attack’ circuit time trials. Good work!

I thought the GTR was limited or restricted in some way (I assumed an encypted ECU) to stop tuners playing with it? Which is how it got over the 276bhp gentleman's agreement they have/had in Japan.

I think someone 'cracked' the ECU within weeks.... It also supposedly has such protection systems in the exhaust, wheels and other easily replaceable 'tuner' parts, to stop you replacing them with aftermarket versions.

Some Japanese boffin has had some sleepless nights I would imagine!

"...basically adds a pair of Rotrex C30-94 superchargers to the existing twin IHI turbocharger installation..."

Two superchargers, two turbos. Fairly tempting the Gods of Reliability there... Fun though!

I wonder how many standing starts with the launch control the gearbox can handle now....;)

That seems like a hell of a lot of work from HKS (and I'm assuming cost) to get a less than 10% increase in power from a twin turboed engine.

Is the Nissan GT-R Really Making 520 Horsepower?

Standard engine must be right upto its limit?

Anyway, still amazing performance per £ in standard form.

....i think i'd still rather have a well tuned 400+bhp R33 or R34.......and you can still make 500, 600bhp from them without breaking the bank (or transmission...;)

erm, not exactly...they're large, well known japanese tuners, reknowned for their work with skylines. Sounds like standard business sense to me...

looks like £3385 +vat & fitting, which is cheaper than i expected looking at the part list.

Fair point, I'll re-phrase it 'Seems like a very lucrative but irrelevant dick swinging competition to me'

For whom? The tuners or the customers that buy them?

Think thats for the Racing Package only which doesn't include the stainless cats or wastegate upgrades, so probably more like £4500 + VAT + Fitting.

What's the point of extra 50 bhp, tuning companies, make it 650 bhp without any superchargers and broken transmission.

Think that's getting a bit "335D (mapped)" tiring now!

Twin Superchargers and Twin turbo's! Awsome...if a little excessive! biggrin
