Apologies if this has been covered before, but if anyone is looking to retro-fit cruise control to their 997 or 987 Boxster it`s now available at your OPC.

email received today from Porsche Tonbridge ...........

Cruise Control

Ideal for long drives on open roads and motorways, a cruise control allows you to maintain a constant speed without using the accelerator. Operated via an easy-to-reach button near the steering wheel, it is effective between 19 mph and 149 mph.

Whilst available for some time as an option on new cars, we can now retro-fit a cruise control unit to all 911 (Type 997), Boxster (Type 987), Cayman and Cayenne models. The fitted price is £499 (inc. VAT) for 911, Boxster and Cayman models and £599 (inc. VAT) for Cayenne models.

As with all Tequipment items fitted by our Porsche Centre, your warranty remains intact. For further information or to place an order please contact our service department on 01732 361222.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers mate, that is good to know. Cruise is great for 'average speed camera' roadworks and long, pointless 30mph limits.

Many options quoted on the Porsche Web/Build site can be retro-fitted via the Tequipment offerings.
Normally though they are nearly double what they cost if spec'd on a new build...

I looked into getting the parts (there's a good guide - I think on Renn - showing how to do it). But... my OPC said they didn't think they would be allowed to do the programming if they hadn't supplied the parts in case it ever failed - they didn't want to be liable. To be fair I didn't push it and he did only say he "thought" this was the case but I would check before you buy the parts.

Just had cruise fitted to my 987 Boxster. My tip is to bargain with the OPC. Had mine fitted for £403 all inc by OPC. Well worth a couple of calls!

I purchased the stalk and bottom wheel cover from the states for less than £100.
Fitted it myself in 30 mins and the dealer charged me £26 to code my car.

Can someone tell me if the steering wheel needs to be removed in order to secure the 2 little torx screws holding the cruise stalk to the column?

Well I did not remove the steering wheel (concerns about airbags erupting unexpectedly rather quelled my exuberance) and installed only one. It appears that the second, innermost one is not essential since there is a small plastic lug that engages in the indicator stalk assembly.

Incidentally, I did not stump up the 40ish quid for a lower steering column cover. The plastic Porsche use is very easy to machine, so I made a paper template from the on board computer stalk cutout and transferred it the other side. 20 mins with a fine toothed saw and a file and it fits perfectly and looks original. If you look REALLY closely you can see there is a difference between the two sides but as far as I am concerned it's not noticeable. In addition I feel better about modifying things than chucking them away and replacing them.
911 Excellence recoded the car (3 places in PIWIS apparently) and were very helpful and only charged £25.

Hi mate can I just ask did you have to run a cable from pin 5 to DME pin A38 OR did you buy the small wire loom that’s part of the kit and just plug the cruise control switch direct into steering stalk?

I’m about to do this setup on my Cayenne but not sure if a cable still needs to be run to the DME - any help would be appreciated

Guys - anyone that’s done the install on a Cayenne - do you still have to run a cable from pin 5 to A38 of the DME or does the small loom you buy as part of the kit just plug from cruise control stalk to the steering column?

I’m about to do this setup myself and just want advice on wether I need to run a cable through to the DME

Thanks
