Audi Design Study Promises Radical Future

Is this the future of Audi car design?

With car design rapidly heading down the route of the ‘green car mould’ where vehicles get increasingly aerodynamically-optimised rooflines to reduce drag, this sporty looking Audi concept makes a refreshing change.

Part of a design study by students at Munich University in collaboration with Audi, this future mobility concept is more rally Audi Quattro than frugal Chevy Volt, which is no bad thing.

Students were asked to create a sporty but socially responsible design that was easily identifiably as part of the Audi stable. Eleven future concepts were created in total as part of a book on the project. Students received support and guidance from Audi’s own design team, and were mentored throughout the project by design bosses Stefan Sielaff and Wolfgang Egger.

'The next generation of employees is our future. Each concept, each model, contains at least one idea or feature that we could certainly conceive of as being included in a future production vehicle. The results are impressive,' says Egger.

Can't put my finger on why, but it reminds me of a Lancia Stratos. I like it.

Where do I sign?? I'd love something that radical on the drive way, if only to scare away burglars!

Was there a problem with the intake at Munich University this year? It appears that some 7yr old boys managed to get on the Automotive Design degree by accident. No doubt this car transforms into "KillerBot" with the press of a switch, can fly, and has lazers for eyes.

Thats about right - it looks more like something from transformers than a bleedin' car. Utterly horrible.

I thought that was the backend of an R8 but using MiniMetro headlights for taillights! yikes

It is refreshing though! I'm not a fan of most new car lines these days.

I can't say I'm a fan tbh. The paint scheme carries it quite a bit, and it just looks like an R8 morphed with a swb Quattro rather than a modern take on the car in its own right. The side door and vent behind it look like styling cues from a Lamborghini too.

now theres a car with a proper face, and from what i can see it doesnt look happy, all it needs is headlight washers and it would actually be crying

Oh GOD, what the hell is that? I immediately thought Stratos too, its the colours and roofline spoiler... Not so much the fact it looks like someone cut the nose off.

ETA: Just read this: "Students were asked to create a sporty but socially responsible design that was easily identifiably as part of the Audi stable." yet several of us immediately thought Stratos.

They have pinched the rear of an R8 and stuck it on the front!? (with some horrid lights)
