GT-R Race Debut: May Bank Hols (Weekend)
2010-spec GT-R racer to mix it up with the class of 2009 at Silverstone 'Supercar Showdown'
PHers looking for ways to spend the May Bank Holiday weekend could do worse than heading to Silverstone for the opening round of the 2009 FIA GT series.
Nissan's new 2010-spec GT1 factory racer will be making its first 'competitive' outing in the hands of Germany's Michael Krumm and Britain's Darren Turner. Although nominally entered in the FIA GT1 category at Silverstone, the race is actually the first race test for the Nissan Motorsports (Gigawave) entry. Their recently announced 2010 category spec GT-R is much closer to production trim than the current crop of GT1 supercar exotics, so we're expecting lap-times for the GT-R to be a little down on the leaders.
Still, it will be great to see the GT-R in action, not to mention the glorious sight and sound of the Maserati MC12s, Corvette Z06s, Ford GTs, Ferrari F430s, Porsche 911s and lone Aston V8 Vantage that will be vying for points in the 2009 championship opener.
Supporting races will include the British F3 Inernational series, GT3 and GT4 European championships and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

(Please note. Bank Holiday weekend racing is Saturday/Sunday only.)
And as such, is it a true GT-R?
(I stand to be corrected by the way)
....it looks a bit like the GTR. And by all accounts it's bloody quick.
Looking forward to Sunday.
