Must confess I miss the days when taxis came down onto the platform at Paddington. That dates me! I remember often going with my Dad to Paddington in the car to pick up his aunt who'd come over from Ireland on the ferry/train from Fishguard, and we'd just drive down that curved ramp from the road down onto the platform to park up. That memory would always return every day when I was using Paddington a few years back when working in London for 18 months, and would often get the Reading train from that same platform.
While we are waiting for those readers out there to get scanning their old car pictures to post for us to enjoy. I thought you might like a "Celebrating the Transit" interlude. I had to do a long journey the other day in a brand new Transit Custom. What a change from Transits of old. That got me searching for a picture of my old '83 Diesel Tranny 35cwt pick up. It was a 2.4 non DI York engine. Pretty gutless and very noisy. A world away from a modern van: Here it is ROM 936Y a few weeks old outside our shop:
And you remember that pic of "Our Enry"?:
Well here is in 2010, re creating that picture on the 45th Anniversary of the Tranny;
The Police said that the humble Tranny was the best getaway motor of the 1970's:
Here are a record 48 students at Barking College cramming into one:
1965 Carrying Elephants at London Zoo;
1960's Spurs showing their new team transport (Jimmy Greaves is there)
Even The Tremelos had one:
Camouflage Trannies at Longleat:
Minibus service England to Australia:
In the North African Desert:
Penthouse magazine racing escorts support vehicle1975:
49 foot Cetiosaurus transporting Kent to Edinburgh:
Steve Mathews leaping 15 cars:
And finally caravan towing world record at 170 mph 1985:

Brentwood, Essex '76, nice Interceptor beyond and another one lurking inside the showroom along with a S1 XJ6...
Loving all these old pics, must sort out what pics my parents have.
Was this taken what is now the Aston Martin dealer ? Do you have any other old pics of Brentwood ?

That was BMW Concessionaires' 528 press car, JLD308N. John Bolster raved about it in his Motor Sport column. Golf yellow is much more vivid and citron in real life, same as used on the E9 CSL.The contemporary reviews of cars which are now pretty much beyond reach for many of us are rather nice; road going GT40s, Dino 246GT and 308GT4, Urraco, Espada etc, all sobering stuff.
Men were men in the '70s...
Manorcom, I see your several Transit vans and raise you another one...
More Rodge...
That young Jagger chappie again...
That's Keith's second Bentley S3 behind, the story goes that he crashed it whilst 'slightly intoxicated' in Chelsea early one morning, running off to let a passenger deal with the consequences...
Goerge Best + dolly bird + E-Type = ace...
Oxford Street, October '65, almost everyone is driving on sidelights...
Smith Street, Chelsea late '60s...
Murchison Road E10, 1969...
Southern Row W10, 1969, part of Kensal Rise gasworks looms in the background and hidden out of sight is the Great Western mainline out of Paddington...
Market Place, Nuneaton in 1966...

Surprisingly, when I learnt to drive in the early 70s, sidelights were the norm in towns and on well lit streets. Headlights were usually only used on unlit lanes/country roads, purely to see with. Never a thought was given to the "see and be seen" of latter years. daveenty said:
