Does anyone know what the radiator is sourced from for a 280 with the rad mounted in the engine bay (not in the nose). I've heard 3.0 Capri mentioned but the hoses are on the wrong sides, I've also looked at a 2.8 Capri but the Capri rad looks much narrower.

Alternatively does anyone know a decent recore specialist in the North West, I'm in Southport.

Regards,

Chris.

All I know is on both of my Tasmin/280is that had the upright radiator, it had the Ford logo on the top of the radiator, but I don't know specifically which Ford product it was sourced from.

I put a Sierra diesel one in mine, slightly different mounting points but nothing a drill won't fix, but quite usefully has more cores and no holes in the middle smile Can't for the life of me remember which exact model it was from now though.....

Mine is from a Mk 2 Granada according to the recore man but the height has been reduced by 3 inches. from the engine side the top hose is on the right and the bottom and on the left. Also the hose to the expansion tank is bottom left. It fits fine between the support posts and cools ok

Chris: I seem to recall from the dim and distant past that it was a Transit van rad - probably the Mk1!
Other sources have suggested Granada, but with the stubs resoldered at different angles.

You could always re-locate it and fit a nose cone one. the escort cosworth rad fits very well in the nose, see my racer pic's

I can second that but I don't think Chris will want to modify his car in this way.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I know the rad is a Ford item (well the top tank has the oval stamp) but thought it may be straight from a production Ford car.

I want to retain the originality and have never had any cooling problems, so I will be fitting like for like, just a shame it's sprung a leak (damp patch where the top tank meets the core, I fitted this rad 18 years ago so I guess its not done so bad. Now for the next 18 years.........

Thanks again,

Chris.

Maybe easier just to get that one re-cored.

Just wondered if anyone came up with the answer regarding the origin of the 280 radiator?

My car is running really hot at the moment and I think the radiator is silted up. I’d like to replace it with a new one if possible. I’ve flushed the system through and removed the thermostat but the gauge is still running up near 100.

mine has been recored in UK about 1 year b4 i bought the car:

i recored it again after buying the car..cost 200,-€ and?

the orginal overheating problem which stressed the car over years had been solved immediately.

so much to the quality of recoring in UK...buy the way...the same story happend again recently when i bought a Clan Crusader for a friend in UK with the same problem-->new rad, new waterpump fitted in UK...both have been refurbished again over here...and the problems could been solved immediately ..cost again 270€...but the high-quality-work seams to be worth the money--> again!!!

I don't agree with your comments, you can have good and shoddy work carried out in any country. As I said in my earlier reply, the current rad. was re-cored 18 years ago, its always cooled well, and still does, it now has a small weep. In my opinion 18 year life from a re-core is acceptable, maybe you disagree.

The radiator man recognised mine as a Mk 2 Granada and the brackets do fit but I had to have the height reduced by 3 inches to make it fit, just. A previous owner had part sawn through the supports and bent them backwards to make it fit. Not a very clever thing to do.

I do agree with a previous post that it was from a transit
