Pic Of The Week: Lola Aston Martin LMP1

Father and son in this Le Mans Special

Preparations for the Le Mans are in full flow, so to keep building the excitement for tomorrow's race we've brought you this lovely shot of the mad-looking LMP1 Lola Aston Martin.

We had a snap of this car as Pic of the Week a few weeks ago, but this time it's sitting proud alongside its forbear, a beautiful 1959 DBR1. It's tough to compete with that on looks, but what the new car lacks of the old car's romance it perhaps makes up for in sheer barminess!

Aston Martin Racing (AMR) will be hoping that the LMP1 mirrors the 1959 car's victory at the 24 hours. We can't wait to watch them try!

Shame about that horrible Lola thing parked in the foreground...

Great pic, it's a real shame though that the current car doesn't run in that gorgeous green frown

Great picture, but what is Skoda's involvement (sponsor sticker).........?eek

OK, just looked on the web site. It is the transportation side of the company, and they are just sponsors. Still not a logo I would have thought appropriate.......money talks.

Gulf colours are a bit over-used now I think.

Is it possible to get a super high resolution image in widescreen? I'm rocking 2x 26" monitors at work and need some pretty hefty sized images to cover them both.

Great picture by the way.

How does that work then? Surely if something is sponsored by something, then its the colours, end of story.....not overused, just Gulf putting their name out, thats all.....

Strange..... confused

They could easily change the way it's applied, but were supposed to say "ooh isn't it iconic" yet again.

Which current racing livery do you think is better?

Call me Philis Styne but I think Peugeot's livery suits the modern car better. But to contradict myself(again) I would love to see a decent Martini livery make a return to Le Mans. smile

all of my favourite car liverys are advertising tobacco, so they couldnt really use them anymore. My all time favourite marlboro wouldnt fit well onto a LMP car anyway frown

I don't think the race cars being in the familiar livery is the problem, per se, it's more the sheep like fashion that everything else HAS to be in blue and orange so that people feel they 'fit in', that gets me.

It does sound like the Lola P1's, especially with Aston meddled bodywork, are quite tricky to drive this year though.

The DBR1 is a thing of beauty.

IMHO the DBR 1 is the best looking Sports/racer ever built, but then I think that the DB4GT Zagato is the best looking sports car .
