Looking for some pads to get rid of that wooden brake feel in my Boxster S without getting pads that squeal (i.e. Pagid Yellow). The car will only be seeing one or two track days a year unfortunately (couldn't find reasonable track day insurance) but will be doing good amounts of fast road driving and a trip to the col de turini cloud9

Thanks Call, will give them a buzz, I'm sure it will be accompanied by a ludicrous price tag though.

After some searching it appears Pagid Blue pads have a good reputation however they do still squeak, does anybody know to what extent?

If they work on the track they will squeel on the road... not much compromise on this really... use RS29's on the road, they are fine, but they do squeel.. just get them hot and 1 or 2 good stops.. they go quiet for a week..!

Ferodo DDS2500's are a good fast road pad.. don't ever squeel, they do work on track to a point, but not brilliant..

I think Pagid blues are a good compromise..

Seems like it's worth forking out for the Pagid Blues in that case.

Can I just change the front pads or will I upset the brake balance as the front is going to bite more than the rear now?

There are 2 makes of pad that will suit road + some track.

Pagid blue RS4-2 approx £200 not tried personally but they are highly recommended.

Mintex 1144 approx £90 but on special order from E-Bay traders. I can vouch for the mintex 1144 compound as a good road/track compromise with plenty of feel.

If I have to change all round £400 sounds a bit much compared to half that for the Mintex.

Pugley what did you have on before the Mintex pads for comparison please?

I've just put Pagid RS14 Blacks on the front of my 987 Boxster S and they're brilliant.

Yes they do squeal but I'm having problems with the anti squeal shims, I expect them to be squeal free once I've sorted them.

Been an expensive fortnight for the car, front pads, nail right in shoulder of rear tyre, so mobile fitter coming tomorrow to fit 4 new tyres, £970, plus might need new calipers to sort out the rusted in shims frown

That's the car wash budget blown for the rest of the year smile

rs14 will swueal they are a much harder race pad
will not squeal on track, but will prob glaze over for road use.

RS42 are the best road pad but you do ned them all round

fitting to the front only is not advised.

I have used the mintex 1144 compound pads on a Ford Cosworth and a Lotus Elise. Great feel, good initial bite, kind to discs, not too expensive.

I attach a link for a supplier on E-Bay who is able to obtain 1144 compound for Porshe.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-911-996-SPORT-VERSIO...

I have a brand new set of front Pagid RS4-2 Blue pads for a 98 - 2004 996 that I would be happy to sell at a £50 discount to anyone who may be interested (Not wishing to break rules - Private mail me via this site and please dont offer to buy via this forum - Thanks)

The Mintex pads seem to offer good value, are they kind to the disks though?

Not sure I understand how changing pads will change the wooden pedal feel...

They are getting quieter.

Or my ears are filtering the noise out more smile

Yes I know fitting to only the front is bad, tried getting some for the rear but no one had stock a couple of weeks ago, time to try again as I'm off all next week and want to get it all sorted.

They don't get a chance to glaze over mate, the dual carriageways round MK rock smile

I wouldnt run RS14's on the road mate.. they are much more aggressive, with a 0.6 friction coefficient.. they will be brilliant on the road or track for sure.. but will nail your discs in no time.. wink expect to be buying some more in 6 months..!

Another recommendation for Pagid Blue & no need to change the rears, unless of course they are low.

Would the Pagid blue pads eat disks very quickly?

Not that you really need worry I suspect. I have run pagid yellows, blacks etc in various cars with plenty of track use and indeed racing. With road use they and the discs will last ages (for which read a couple of years - all dependent on usage etc, but we're not talking months here)

No they don't. Just don't let the drilled disk holes clog up with brake dust (applies to all pads) especially after a track day if you do any & the discs will last ages.

I agree - I've run blues on the front and std on the rear with no problem. The brakes are totally different front to rear anyway, why would you need to have the same pads?

Also the Elise is running RS14 blacks on the front and blues on the rear again no problems at all. Apart from the noise of course.
