As the title suggests really. I just need to know when it was made (when registered might help but made is better) Don't have the V5 to hand and could do without digging it out TBH with you!

Cheers

What car is it? also a pic of the same car might help, like say mk4 golf or something, can narrow it down to a few years, instead of the beginning of time.

If you know the chassis number, you can probably ask the manufacturer.

I know its a 2000 model Fiat Punto JTD W Reg. But I need to know if it was pre or post august as the exhaust changed slightly... and I need a new exhaust.

Rip of a few bits of trim and check the date stamps on the moldings. Usually if you look at the rear side of, say the ashtray it will show two stamps, one for the year, the other for the month. If it's pre august you won't know as the bits could have been sitting around for a while, but aug or later your should be on a winner...

Good advice, I'll try that. Thanks.

Follow this link
http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/
then click on "Vehicle Enquiry".
Enter the reg no, and make and it will return both date registered and manufactured.

Simple.

I used to sell car parts and you would often find early parts on later models so i doubt that will help, Best thing to do is pop into your local exhaust/motor factors and ask them to look at there Walker or Bosal book and see which one looks the same in there as on your car.

Just took a look in there but could only see the registered date and the tax due date. Still interesting to see how many of my "exes" are still on the road though smile

As dockertrigger says. You would have more success with the chassis number.
Or have a look at this for pics of exhausts. Once you have a part number then you should be able to get any supplier to cross reference it to the make they sell.

just been playing around with this, if the car shows up on the database, does this mean that it is still in existence / use?

It will only tell you if it's still taxed,

For example here (My first car)

The enquiry is complete

The vehicle details for B335 XNO are:

Date of Liability 01 10 1999
Date of First Registration 06 09 1984
Year of Manufacture 1984
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1196CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BROWN
Vehicle Type Approval null

so it was last taxed in 1999 and isn't sorn which means it's scrapped, where as my other car i have now isn't due it's tax until December.

The vehicle details for KNR ***P are:

Date of Liability 01 12 2009
Date of First Registration 24 09 1975
Year of Manufacture 1975
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1573CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour BLUE
Vehicle Type Approval null

What does 'date of liability' mean? I owned a car (first reg in 1970) in 1987, and the 'date of liability' is 1987.

Judging by the dates for my current cars, 'date of liability' is when the tax disc expires.

I'm assuming if someone's taxed the cars then they're still on the road and when they stopped then the car stopped being used at some time in the previous 12 months. My MOT failure (severe structural rust) X1/9 a scrappy took away with his daughter, who I saw driving it a few days later, seems to have stayed on the road for a few more years!

OK - looks like I was the last person to use that car on the road then smile
