pubs everywhere (I had mine there, after a visit to sheepdog trials and a brewery), then a crap nightclub like Toffs, if it's still there.

It is, I was on a stag there a couple of weeks back, it truly is crap!

ETA - if you come out of toffs and turn left and then follow the road round there is a lap dancing club straight ahead of you....or so I'm told.

There are no decent lapdancing clubs in York. But there are 2 lapdancing clubs in York.

If you want decent, go to Harrogate. Used to be a Spearmint Rhino.

I haven't lived in York for 13 years but what a great place to go on a Stag - so many pubs that a pub crawl would seem to be the best solution. Can't believe Toffs is still there! How about Silks and Ziggys? hehe

The Micklegate Run is probably a favourite for stag type dos.

Out of 10. Ziggy's gets about 4, Bohemia gets 5.

Seriously, if you are coming to York for a strip club, have a good night in York one night and the other one get the train to either leeds or Harrogate. You will see some great bars, pretty women and better strip clubs.

This is not to say that you won't have a good time in York. It's a great night out - go to the bars near the Minster or by the river. Go across the river if you want cheap booze and cheaper women. Go to the Nags Head on Micklegate for trebles for singles.

Also, York gets full of stag dos so you might want a change of scenary after a night or so.

If you all want some good food during the day, go to Swinegate Yard - used to be called Oscars.

Very much depends on how many people is on the stag do? Loads of you then its micklegate/rougier street. Up to 6-8 of you then better going other end of town where Revolution, Pitcher and Piano etc is.

Bohemia is the lapdancing club at top of Micklegate.

Stag Do stick to dark side of the river.

Toffs is called Tru now.

Micklegate is still the place. Start at the top at the Windmill, Montys, Bohemia, Nags Head, Rumours, Ziggys, BPM.

I have included the 2 place where the ladies get naked for you.

All 5 minute walk apart from top to bottom.

Silks is still there, but is called The Gallery.

Oscars isn't there anymore, well it is but isn't the same. Nip over the road to Bobos for food good lobster and steak there. Or down behind the Slug and Lettuce (Swinegate, not riverside) to Alleycats.

Yeah. Oscars hasn't been great for a while though, just ordinary pub grub. Probably since they started planing Biltmore.

Haven't sampled the new place yet though, been away too much.

I've done a search and drawn a blank, other than this 6 year old thread. Surely things have changed though, so my question is:

There's a few of us going to York in a few weeks for a stag do. Horse racing and then drinks in York somewhere. Staying near to the race course.

I'm a bit concerned after hearing "we'll not get into any bars in York as stag do" from several people.

Can anyone suggest bars that would accommodate a group on a stag do? I guess we are talking about the less classy bars of York!

In fact any general advice would be useful as this is the first time I've stayed over in York.

Many thanks in advance.

P.S Also - If anyone can recommend a nice curry place (maybe nearer to the race course) for the night before (and before the rest of the tribe turn up) I'd be grateful.

You'll get in most places, as long as you're not acting like bell ends as you approach.

If you're coming in from the racecourse and heading for town then there's an Indian on the right hand side about 50 yards through Micklegate Bar.

Alternatively my favourite is the Indian Lounge on Swinegate, which is right in the middle of the other set of bars in town.

Can I ask you to please keep your lads away from the river? I'm one of the coxswains of the York Rescue Boat and we have an issue with people having a few drinks and then either jumping in, or trying to go for a swim. The water is still really cold and if you do go in, no matter how good a swimmer you are, the cold will mean you've not got long before you're in real difficulty.

Have a good time.

The Jinnah used to be some where near Micklegate bar, it was always a very good curry.

Thank you very much for the suggestions so far.
We'll try to book the Indian Lounge.

Its more of a mature stag do so hopefully there'll be no swimming in the river.

Back to the bars - can anyone recommend some scummy bars that would suit us and cooperate with the humiliation of a stag.

Most of the bars on Micklegate (The part of the centre nearest the racecourse) will let you all in no problems aka The Micklegate Run as there are a lot of pubs/bars on that street. In fact most of the bars on that side of the river will cater for large groups. if you want something a little different, try booking a table at the Stein Bier Keller: http://www.steinbierkeller.com/ its just round the corner from Micklegate. Its table service by ladies in low cut outfits severing steins of larger, you cannot go wrong. Its a good starting point before heading back down Micklegate.
