Something For The Weekend: 24/07/09
Silverstone Classic offers eclectic fun in the sun (or drizzle)

90 years of heritage - and Blue!
A PHer rarely has an excuse to be bored at the weekend, and this one is no exception. This Friday sees the kickoff of the three-day festival known as the 'Silverstone Classic', at the famous circuit in Northamptonshire.
These days the Classic has grown into a sort of hybrid motorsport and music festival, and possibly the only place where you'll see classic sports and racing cars alongside The Pussycat Dolls, Toploader (remember them?) and Blue. Suffice to say, the music bit is optional...

"So, er, have you owned it from new..?"
More to PH's taste, the event will see over 600 modern and classic racing cars take part in over 20 races, and upwards of 4,000 classic cars from various clubs on display. There's also celebrity racing (presumably in cars, we're not certain), a Harley Davidson stand with stunt displays and demo rides, an air display and what the blurb describes as a 'Victorian Fun Fair'.
Tickets start at £25 for Friday, with a full 3-day pass available for £79.

Careful if you call by phone for a one day price - this company has a tendency to quote one price over the telephone only to charge you more on the gate when you have no alternative.
If i were cynical, you could say this is a useful marketing strategy!
You have been warned.

I 'was' intending going... then I thought what are those grinning pussycats wearing in the pic above... 'CARBON CUTTER' t-shirts!!! Oh boy, climate-change freaks have got a hold on a motor sport event. Carbon-Cutter (http://www.carbon-cutter.com/) are not only interested in the environment but also your donations - preferably a 'min' of 50 euros donations! Note this site too, (http://buyawatt.com/index.html) Buyawatt (trading as C Lauren & Co) C Lauren & Co (trading as Carbon-Cutter) Fortunately, I'm a cynic and pessimist My weekend will now be elsewhere.

Should be good, I'm thinking of going on the Saturday IF my refund for Michael Jackson tickets has come through. Saturday is the best for music; Santana is playing. Anyone know if the Tyrrell P34 will be there? One of my favourite F1 cars of all time, sadly I missed the one at Donington, there was an empty gap where it should go next to Mansell's JPS Lotus.

A great event by all accounts, but I hope they haven't bitten off more than they can chew this year with the music stuff. Originally the standard tickets prices were as they are now, and the concerts were a significant extra on top of that (another £60+)
Now you get everything in the standard price, which says to me they sold next to no concert tickets. It seems an unnecessary extra with virtually no crossover between the style/tone of the event and the acts they've booked. I appreciate that they lost money last year, but with a bit of work this could easily have become as essential as Goodwood.

I'm taking the family on Sunday, bit gutted that Slowly Sideways isn't there this year. Looking forward to it though.

I shall be there Friday. Will not stay for the music though. Just hoping for some good weather to get decent pictures.

Hi there I am actually one the guys from Carbon- Cutter and I am glad you were able to zoom in on our girls to see the logo, that was part of the plan. (Hope you enjoyed the view)
We love motor sport events and have finally found a way to enjoy it and help the environment.
Anyone who has looked Carbon-Cutter knows they can have the option to have their money returned and the response was very positive over the weekend so a big thank you to all who attended.
