Pic Of The Week: 1973 911 RSR
Shaken, not stirred...

After the rumours that Porsche may be considering a special edition 'Supersport' 911
earlier this week, in a tribute to the 1984 'Turbo-look' car, we had a nose about looking at some classic Porker pics. There were some great shots, but we liked this one so much that we just had to share it with you - we're just that sort of people here at PH.
Pictured is what we're fairly certain is a 2.8-litre variant of the 1973 911 Carrera RSR, looking rather splendid in silver with Martini livery. And for the Porsche die-hards out there, we've done our homework - this is believed to be chassis number 911.360.0588. Not bad, eh.
Of course, being PH, someone can probably tell us more, along with the exact make and model of the lorry behind it too...

There is an original 73 RSR 2.8 in orange residing not 5 miles from my house. I think he paid circa £250k for it and it has had a fully documented nut n bolt rebuild and now races it.....I also saw a lorry today....

Love the used look of the car and the Heath Robinson spoiler development work on the back. I found this picture of a restored version, courtesy of Toad Hall Racing, with a more professionally finished back end.

yeahYeah what is the ducktape spoiler work about? Love the little homemade touches that make a racer like the shoddy glassfibre front wing on the mclaren f1 car at the nurburgring the other week. Any answers Porsche guys?

The first picture has the original ducktail fitted, but with 2 crude 'wraparound' extensions tacked on, the second is the ultimate development of the ducktail, which was replaced in 1974 with the whaletail : Carrera 3.0 RSR

Ah hello Mr Kunt. How's the electro shock therapy going? I see they've limited your use of the internet since the treatment started.

cragswinter said: yeahYeah what is the ducktape spoiler work about? Increasing the downforce of the back wing/spoiler to counteract the lift experienced at high speeds. As with, most cars the side profile resembles a wing. I'm guessing they used duck-tape because they were experimenting with different set-ups.

Duct tape experiments eh? God I love the old times when cars were cars and men were simply nuts.
Finally had to remove the 3.5 CSL BMW from a few weeks ago.
