My best guess would be a swimming pool/ aquatics place. I got some ph strips for testing water in my pool from a place like that.

Boots website has no mention of it being a stock item. Good suggestion and fairly obvious which makes it surprising that they don't seem to sell it. scratchchin

Can you get it from a garden centre in a soil testing kit?

Childrens Chemistry set. Do they still sell those or are they worried 10 year olds will make WMD from some low purity benine chemicals now?

Ask in any pub as they should have some for testing the line cleaners PH to make sure its all out of the system before putting the beer back on. No pub ever uses it as you can tell if there is still line cleaner in the system because the water is still soapy feeling. You get a bunch free with every box of pipeline cleaner so they should have loads and will probably just give you it for free.

Litmus isn't used too much nowadays.

Everyone seems to use Universal Indicator instead.

It's possible they do if you ask for it. But a small independent pharmacy is a pretty good bet, and means you can just go and buy it and don't have to put up with the grief of ordering stuff.

Oops didn't notice the high street bit - bit esoteric for the high street though?

Ok - 2nd go - buy a red cabbage and boil some in a small amount of water, let the water cool and you have your indicator. Red in acid, forget the alkali colour, but test it with some ammonia containing cleaning agent to see.
