The auto lights and wipers on my 52 plate 172 have stopped working automatically. I can switch them on manually, but I'd like to get them working properly again.

Anyone have any suggestions what could have caused it?

Thanks,

Tycho

I think the auto lights can be switched off manually but I can't remember how. I think it is something to do with putting the key in the ignition and switching the lights on. Should be in the manual.

Auto lights can be switched on by flicking headlight switch to sidelights and back three times while the ignition is in position 2, IIRC. It should bleep to confirm.

That's it. In my 182, you have to turn the wipers to position 1 every time you start the car. If left in pos 1 then they won't work.

I am getting well pissed with my auto wipers in my 2002 172. Every time it rains then stops , they won't switch themselves off! I have to turn off the ignition to disable them. Is there any way to disable the auto wipers or is it just a fault with the sensor do you spoze?

Test the sensor doug by pouring water over it and see wat it does, have you had a new screen fitted at all ?

I found that if I washed and waxed the car then this happened. I think it was because wax was over the sensor and confused it.

I think mine stopped working after the screen was changed. Is there some way of testing the sensor, or doing anything to it to try and get it to work?

Go back to who changed the screen as they are the ones who have caused the problem.

Yeah, the dude I recently bought it frm said the windscreen was recent. I want to just disable the sensor somehow. I think I can manage to see when its raining & switch on my wipers myself

It should say in your owners handbook.

If you do not have one, try;

Ignition on,
Flick dipped beams on, off, on then off,

Or,

Ignition on,
Flick dipped beams on, then off.

HTH.

Don't have the hand book. It is the auto wipers i need off & not the auto lights. The procedure described sounds like it might be for lights.

HTH.
