Pic Of The Week: BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics

It's a diesel hybrid, but it still looks pretty cool...

Yes, it's a hybrid and yes, it's got a three-cylinder turbodiesel, but we think this Vision Efficient Dynamics concept, which BMW unveiled earlier this week, is still a pretty exciting machine.

The 1.5-litre three-pot motor already develops 163bhp and 214lb ft but, combined with the twin electric motors, it can make 356bhp and 590lb ft. As a result, BMW claims 0-62mph in 4.8 sec and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. Not bad for a diesel hybrid.

It also looks like something out of a sci-fi blockbuster. You almost expect Arnie or Tom Cruise to step out of the driver's door at any moment. If this 'Layed Surfacing' is the future of BMW design, we're certainly not complaining.

I really think this concept could work if it was in one colour!

This looks like a BMW inspired by a Nike shoe.

I change my desktop every week for the new PH pic of the week - all I can say is it's a good thing I'm on holiday next week so I don't have to look at that thing eek That'll be the first time in over 18 months that I've thought that smash

yes The blue detailing does nothing for it. In montone, I think it would look superb.

It's nice.....but not nice enough to replace the 'GT40 going up Eau Rouge' as my wallpaper.

BMW build joy? Someone has been taking too many space pills.

Joy is if something like all my numbers come up on the Euromillions, garage full of 4 wheel and 2 wheel toys with Jessica Alba as my evening plaything. That is joy biglaugh

OK I got a bit bored and messed around with the picture to see if I could make it look more like a production colour.

There are people here who would say "it's ugly" if they saw a 250 GTO or a DB9 or a 458 Italia or a Miura for the first time and it had a BMW badge on it.

I like it and I'm having one, don't care about the two tone just look at the R8, no one says that's ugly. To me it's the DBs and all you negatives out there must be short of cash or married to the wrong woman.

The overall shape of the car is interesting but the 'layered surfacing' (the trailing front and leading rear fender treatment) is Bangle 2.0. Simply horrible.

sustainable ... light ... lightness .. light .. sustainable ... light ... lightness ...

How many times do they have to repeat it without actually explaining anything!

However I do like the concept. Lets hope they tune down the chav blue LEDS.

I like it. Kind of looks like it could replace the 8 Series if it was just one colour and had a slightly more sporty engine.
