How many S Series Cars Left on Road..?

From the end of another Topic but got me thinking

My bad.. According to the Bible.. there were 2,604 cars made, strange I thought it was more like 4,000, Doh.

So does anyone know how many are still on the road..? it could well be less than 1,000 by now.

I believe it is possible to make an enquiry with the DVLA for a small fee - though how accurate that would be I don't know as some V8S's were registered as a '290S'. Might be worth a try though.

And add on an "educated guess" for number abroad ?

My car registered on 01/08/1990 is refered to as an S3 on purchase receipt and a 290S on log book, doesn't quite tie up with that list ?

The Year codes are the year letter in the chassis number not registration letters, sorry I should have copied the entire article as below.

Chassis Number Interpretation

The last eight characters of the chassis number can indicate when it was made.
The eighth character in from the right of the serial number is the manufacturing year letter.
The characters to the right of this define the model and other information.

Note the build number refers to ALL CARS TVR MADE THAT YEAR not just S's.

Was interested in this topic because my V8 was registered in July 94 and I was intereted in how close it was to the last built which according to the bible was M951NOP. It also says there were only 3 or 4 V8S sold in 94.
You can't go on the registration date as some 94 registrations were built in 93 so I looked at the VIN number. I found that there is some opinion that the digit that we take as the Plant code is in fact the build month with January as A, February as B. I did try to get some comment from the club but didn't get very far. Anyone got any info on this ?

There are no figures available to show S types against the year they were made. The table puts them into neat, but inaccurate order. As the S3 came out around spring 1990, most of the 618 s-series made in that year are actually S3, not S2. Similarly, many of the cars made in 1989 are S2, not S1.
