Just a heads-up to anyone thinking of doing an oil-change in the near future - Halfords are currently doing 20% off their 5L Mobil 1 oils.

I picked up some 15W/50 Motorsport yesterday for £38.39 linky

Would have bought more but there was only one in the store rolleyes

I went down last week and got some for £36 with my trade card, so £38 without a card does not seem to bad.

Chris, it's cheaper than that in Costco iirc. I'll have a look when I'm next there.

Also worth noting that Kwik Fit offer some usefully cheap oil service deals.

I know this will flair a debate about the competency of their local branch, but assuming they are good and not monkeys, then definitely worth ringing for a quote. In fact the manager of my local branch used to work for Webbs TVR!

I think it was £30 for an oil change/filter (as well as some basic safety checks) and all the oils are Mobil biggrin

On the higher spec/rarer stuff, they actually use 1 litre bottles of Mobil (because they don't sell enough to buy the big barrels), so you can tell exactly what they have put in, and how much wink. I remember seeing around about 7 bottles sat next to my old car biggrin

My local Costco only sells the 0w40 variety of Mobil 1 and I for one am more of a fan of the 15w50 flavour as it improves my hot oil pressure by at least 5-10 psi according to the TVR gauge...

I used to use Mobil 1 Motorsport 5w-50 which you could buy cheaply in France but I haven't seen it for a few years now. I expect Kwik Fit use Mobil 0w-40 stuff.

They told me that if Mobil make it, they can get it. They simply order it in smile

Oil pressure is not the end-all and be-all. Oil flow is at least as important if not more so.

A 15WXX oil is also thicker when cold than a 0WXX oil & that's when most wear happens.

Which is why I used to like the French Mobil 1 5w-50 which I used to buy whenever I visited...
