OK, cant believe I'm writing this, but I've had an epithany (or maybe its just a midlife crisis).
Strangely, my midlife crisis is selling my Porsche as opposed to buying one. I've spent a fair chunk of money (for me at least) on cars over the last 10 years and am thinking that, at 33, I really should be investing any savings I have in a 2nd property.
The only real equity I have, apart from what is in my own home, is in the car.
So, realistically, what could I expect to get for my 997S, at worst if I was to sell to a trader?
Sept 2005 '55' 997S (Manual) I'm the 2nd Owner (I purchased from Silverstone OPC in April last year) FPSH (had 4yr/Major Service 2,000 miles/2 months ago) 6 months Porsche Warranty remaining (for what its worth) Seal Grey with Black Leather Carrera S wheels (2 sets: one standard, one Basalt with Silver lip) Heated/Memory/Adaptive Sports Seats PCM Navigation Module Rear Park Assist Bose 6-CD Jobbie Multifunction Steering Wheel Auto Dimming Mirror Rain Sensing Wipers Electric Sunroof Wheel Spacers Top tint windscreen (dont they all come with this?)
....erm, I think thats it.

Life is for living - keep the Porsche.
Most people get into the whole property investment malarkey so that they'll have enough money later in life to buy a Porsche!!!

Have you considered putting it on sale or return at Silverstone?
We are the same age. And unless you are married, I would either keep it or chop it in for something cheaper and more fun... e.g. a 987S! Then put the change into a deposit for another property.

I'll be 33 next year, hopefully I won't be ready to buy the Jag and slippers as you appear to be old son! You're thinking about it all wrong, instead of planning for a long future buy a faster Porsche and reduce your life expectancy, it works out the same!

Thanks for the replies...its a lovely car, and decent enough spec. I knew I forgotton something, and the milage is pretty important. Just under 24,000 miles presently. SonnyM said: Have you considered putting it on sale or return at Silverstone?

I'd not thought about Sale or Return Sonny, I may ask them as they have been very good to me in the past. No, not Married (came very close, but now happily single!) and no kids. I'm thinking that if I got something else I go the other end of the spectrum and get a Defender or similar...if I'm going to get somthing slower/cheaper, I may as well go the whole hog and get a different experience. This change is also being drivin by the fact I may be working for 6 months in the US from March next year...so I have been thinking about selling anyway...this has progressed to me now thinking about what to do with whatever money I get for it.

Cash in and get what you can for it now. You've already one property, I'd be worried about 'putting all your eggs in one basket' and putting the money into a another property for investment purposes. Diversify! A defender is a great idea. And you can have a spin in our 911 when you fancy it. As long as you let me have a go in the GT3 when you return from the states

Thanks for the kind offer (a GT3 on my return would be nice......but thats against the whole point!! ) I learnt to drive in my dads Defender, and I've wanted one ever since, though I'm sure I'll end up thinking: WTF?! Say hi to Jules for me!

Say hi to Jules for me! My mate bought a fully restored 'series 1' defender last year. I understand series 1, is one of the first. I'm sure it's early 1950s or something. It looks ace. Mind you he can only drive it down to the local pub - any further and the alternator or some other thingymajig falls off or something

Privately = £36-£38k, the prices have recently firmed up and warranty along with spec and low milage should mean it will shift rather quickly IMO. I am also 33 and going through a similar crises though mine is getting into a Ferrari 360, i know its wrong but it seems there is an itch that needs scratched.

I was thinking the same price spread...though may need a quicker sale of the right property comes up.

Ha, well I wish I'd never sold my 993 too...for a Audi S4 The 997 has been a great car, and I've no doubt that it wont be my last Porsche. It proabbly will be the most expensive though...aircooled again next time round when funds allow. ...mind you, I've always like the 997GT3
