...I am curious because only the base GT3 was imported this side of the pond. wondering if it would be possible to build a rep from a base GT3, since we can't get a real one. I am aware of the lightweight parts, lack of rear seat, one piece flywheel etc,so not an easy change.

Different suspension and hundreds of small diffeences. You'd be far better importing a genuine one and enjoying the real thing smile

I wish I could . However, the car is not type approved for importation. I have a 997RS and it would have be nice to get the 996 as well. For some reason Porsche did not send any RS versions to NA since the original 2.7RS except for a for a cosmetic version years ago called the RS America which was not the real thing.

Is there the equivalent of the UK Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) test? Remove the roll cage (is a bolt in item I think) and see if it complies with NA type approval?

Making a copy from a MKII GT3 will cost a fortune as the RS parts are daft money and there are many differences.

There is a very expensive way to do it but its not economical and there are strict mileage limits also. Well, thanks for the info..we can put this one to bed for a whilesmile. The 1 .GT3 came in, but not the RS.

That's a very cheap way to get the result, although from looking at it the hood is some cheaper imitation (poor finish underneath) and I wouldn't therefore be surprised if rear wing is imitation too. Also that role bar looks rubbish smile

The other mechanicals sound great though and would cost a fortune to replicate.
