Video: Porsche Boxster Spyder

Stripped-out Boxster revealed on the move

The new Porsche Boxster Spyder will be comfortably the lightest car in Porsche's range when it joins the company's range next February.

The new Porsche Spyder weighs in at 1275kg. That's 55kg (or a very light adult) less than the next lightest Porsche, the basic Porsche Cayman.

Read more on the new Boxster Spyder's spec here

And as if to prove the point that pared-down functionality is the key to the 320bhp, no-stereo-or-air-con car, Porsche has released this refreshingly non-pretentious video of the Spyder careering along some twisty country lanes.

There's no music, nor are there any fancy production tricks - just a couple of minutes of empty road, a Porsche and a flat-six soundtrack. Lovely.

Sounds good,& looks better than the standard Boxster imo. I'd be more interested to see a lightweight Cayman RS.

Do they not have a Caymen RS?

can someone tell me the point of this car other than a cynical marketing exercise?

No, but there is supposed to be a Clubsport or similar version on the way soon.

This is the only Boxter I like, from the factory. The Stola offering is on another level altogether.

Great bit of kit with a soundtrack to match!

Wasn't entirely convinced of this in static shots, but in motion it looks fantastic (albeit sans 'tent' roof).

And what a noise!

Glorious noise combined with being the only good looking Porsche in the current range IMO.

Will definitely be asking Santa for one this christmas.

Definitely the best looking Porsche of the last decade at least. Absolutely stunning, and I could live with that noise, too. Though ol' Fritz at the helm needs to get a bit more loud-pedal-happy if you ask me. We spectators will chip in for a bag of jelly beans for him if he does.

Excellent! First time a Porsche has got me a bit hot under the collar for a while.

An extra 50 or 60-ish horsies would be nice though! smile

It's better than the first photos I saw of it.

But they're charging more for less and the roof - oh my!

I'd have the regular 987S over it.

And in a related story, Lotus is considering a new Elise variant with a practical folding roof.
