Sweet, many thanks.

It keeps saying it's a "virtual appliance". Does that mean I can't just boot the .iso and install? I have to run it as a virtual machine on a linux desktop?

That's where I got it from. Try the vmware one because the virtualbox one didn't run for me.

On the getchrome.eu you can download either the vmx to play in vmware player or the iso to run off a livecd

So the .iso I just downloaded (gotta love the speed of torrenting!) is just a LiveCD?

It's an OS with a browser frontend.

Pistonheads running on chrome OS

Yes I did cheat, it's actually running in a VM, It's not ready for real use yet, and from what I've seen I'm not sure I'll ever be using it.
Why not?
I downloaeded it but im at work at the moment, can you give a round up of what you thought?
crb: Could you tell me where you downloaded your VM version of Chrome OS? I got the one from getchrome and it looks completely different - basically GNOME with a bit of a bias towards using Google Chrome rather than a Chrome OS.

I got everything I needed via this post on techcrunch http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/11/19/guide-install... but the actual image came from here http://gdgt.com/google/chrome-os/download/

I did set up a throwaway gmail account to test it out, just in-case the source had been hacked to intercept passwords but I don't think that's really that likely.

The version I got (from the torrent) looks like SuSE with a Chrome browser on the desktop, that doesn't even launch.
It has YaST.
