I just caught the end of a Radio 4 news report about a case where it had been found that the phot evidence had been doctored (different day added).

Does anyone know the case details?

It was for a parking ticket I think. Still if they can do it for parking tickets they can alter speeding evidence, don't trust the bastards and contest everything.

Digital pictures really should not be admissable as evidence.

To anyone who doesn't know, it's frightening how easy it is to manipulate a digital picture in any way.

A chemical picture can also be manipulated, it's just a bit more time consuming.

It was a private company that doctored the image (of a photograph taken by them) - Streaky

It was a private company restrictng parking to certain bays/areas whilst work was in progress. The evidence they submitted in response to a challenged ticket was indeed a pair of doctored digital photos. They had changed the date to convince the judge the restrictions were in force on the day the guy parked there. Problem was that's all they changed - the photos were identical in every other respect. Angle, distance, lighting, exposure, cloud formations, leaves on tress etc etc. Numpties.

There is a good piece in the Sunday Times about the lot of the UK motorist. Astonishing stories like the guy fined £60 and given 3 points for displaying his parking ticket upside down. Or the guy who went out to warm his car up and jumped out to kiss his wife and daughter goodbye - and was fined £60/3 points by a passing BiB. Leaving a car running whilst unattended is apparently illegal, but this is taking the piss surely. Less humorous is how we are ripped off by the myriad raids on our wallet compared to other countries. Time to emmigrate methinks.

And what about the councillor knocked down and injured on his motor-scooter? Police and ambulance called to scene, blue lights flashing, debris in roadway, etc.

As he was being loaded into the ambulance with a broken knee he saw a warden stick a parking ticket on his damaged scooter that the BiB had moved on to the footway.

Apparently the ticket was cancelled when he complained, but the issuing company said that, "With hindsight the accident had been cleared up before the warden issued the ticket." What an extraordinary statement to make!

This was in Sat's Times - IIRC it was NCP acting for Bury council.

They did use the same photograph (as proved by cloud formations ) but in an attempt to cover things up used a black and white photo for one day and a colour photo for another!!!

This could have very far reaching implications in that part of the law

Surely doctoring a photo in this way to get a conviction is called "perverting the course of justice" which carries a prison term?

Hope he prosecutes them!

It's only because NCP were so shoddy in their forgery that this failed though. If they had gone back on a different day, taken a new photo and then doctored that picture, they'd have gotten away with this whole thing scot free. Which is bloody scary, frankly.

If they've ever done the above, chances are we'll never know about it anyway!

Thought I'd bump this one up - there was a bit in the paper today reporting that the woman is indeed in court for perverting the course of justice!

Here's a news article I've just found:

I think gaol would be entirely appropriate...

They need making an example of so all these jumped up organisations that leech off our wallets learn a lesson.

So, would that be gaol, or execution, then?

Brunstrom should be next - 6,000 counts of "perverting the course of justice".

IMHO either would be acceptable

Scum, I hope this evil cow is banged up for this.
Bedfordshire council painted a yellow line up to the front and back of my car, then ticketed it.
When the Balif called, to approve my car for removal I showed him the photo I had taken. He assured me he would talk to the council, he did and they told him to persue it.
A meeting later it was dropped, I told the manager there I was not in the habit of being threatened and if they wanted a pitched riot to happen ( their rent a nazi squad v me and all the lads from whichever building job I was currently handling)then be my guest.
Simple tactics that work with any bully.

The woman on trial was cleared of perverting the course of justice. Gavin Moses who already admitted to doctoring them said that she gave him orders to do it. The defence alleged that other employees hatched a plot against her:

Apparently Gavin Moses will be sentenced today.

Am I right in thinking a Digital Photo is still not deemed as submissible in a court of law as evidence? AFAIK, this is the case and has not changed? (apart from the fact that the above case contradict my statement!)

If it now is, does anybody know when this changed?

Cheers,

Matt.

Scandalously lenient. Nothing more than a slap on the wrist IMHO.
