Hi,
Can anyone tell of a service where you can check a cars history by its vin number rather than by its number plate

Cant comment for HPI, but DVLA only work on reg number.

I spoke to them about just this earlier in the week, we've got a car in the workshop at the moment that hasnt been on the road in years and the owner doesnt know what the reg should be, DVLA couldnt help as the need current or previous reg's

HPi will do a VIN only check

Hpi and Experian key all their data on VIN number because reg no's change with private plate transfers etc. An HPi or Experian check will indeed give you what you need.

I think HPI takes the number plate and vin number from the details you submit and checks with DVLA. If DVLA has the wrong vin number on record(on your V5) then it just tells you to recheck the vin number you have submitted to chech it is correct. I want to find out details of the correct vin not the one on the V5
