Popped into the McLaren showroom today on Park Lane.

Anyway, they're selling Driving Ambition for £40 from there if anyone is still looking. Fantastic book!!!

Presumably you'd been to the BMW showroom next door to look at the fully armoured anti-terrorist 3-series they are said to have in there and just popped in to the Macca place on the way back to the tube?

Nah, just got bored. I had met Domster of Porsche forum fame for lunch and stopped off there on the way back to my place in Pimlico. Didn't bother with the Beemers... but ive heard about the armoured 3-series... cool!

If anyone is in London, pop down Highstreet Kensington for HR Owens and Lamborghini London.

Oh, and the lady in the McLaren garage was really intimidating but did allow me to have a closer look inside

You can still buy the Mclaren book at St. martins bookshop near leicester square.

Of course, they don't have a Mclaren F1 in the shop, though. No matter how much I begged, or how much I impressed her with my F1 in GT racing knowlwdge I could'nt get a seat in it.

They still have it, unsold although its not for sale- its just there to keep up their profile. Presumably it wont be long before a Mclaren mercedes joins it, though...

Yeah, she's not the friendliest. I can understand that she's probably under strict orders to keep riff raff (anyone worth under £20m) out of the motor, but her attitude is a bit silly. When you consider how friendly the staff are at HR Owen, Maranello and Talacrest it seems a bit excessive. She must have the easiest job in the world though as not many people dare enter the hallowed portal to automotive heaven. I suppose she's there mainly to flog stereos that cost more than the BMs next door.

Not letting people play is such the wrong idea. As a kid Aston Martin let me have a spin in one of their wonderful machines whilst my sister was playing Horsey at Hickstead. Ok, so a 10 year old can't afford such a jalopy, but who knows, maybe one day a "David Brown" will be on my drive

K8 MCL I remember this car with such affection....... the only time I'll ever plonk my backside in an F1 (unless I win the lottery....)

What a day that was - Supercar Sunday 1998, the kind chaps from Mclaren were really happy to chat with people and allow them to have a good nose around that car - couldn't get them to take me for a spin though.

Also found out off them that Williams were due to use BMW engines in F1 after I'd asked them why Mclaren didn't use them.

Only downside was my camera threw a wobbler and none of the pics came out - so I had no proof oh well... they can't take away my memories...

Last year July I sold my 996 to the son of a very wealthy family, the garage who acted on their behalf near hyde park corner had 3 mclarens in their oversized lock up..one of the cars was a red mclaren LM...i got to sit in all 3 of the cars, thankfully i was given the keys to the silver N plater that was in all the Classic car mags last year...i spent an hour tooling around with it,,,started it up which was nigh on mental...but bottled it when i couldn't get hold of my insurance company..the car was already sold at £700k and I didn't really need to take on that personal risk driving in central London...a great memory and I doubt I will ever have the opportunity again....sounded nice when you blipped it though!
