Video: Porsche 911 GT3 Rallyfest

And you thought that iced-up roundabout was hairy...

As much of the UK remains under a layer of water in varying stages of freezing, driving conditions call for a 'dab of 'oppo' on even the most mundane journeys.

If you've survived a frosty workout on the way to the office, why not reward yourself with this cracking video from YouTube, showing a bevy of howling Porsche GT3 rally cars assaulting various European rally courses, and employing some pretty epic driving talent that might just put our slippery backroad adventures into some perspective.

Nearly nine minutes long, the video shows GT3s sliding, speeding and even jumping, all set to the stunning soundtrack of the boxer engine at full song. This really is a corker, and another top-notch example of the 'pure sound' motoring videos becoming common on YouTube and other video sites, where irritating porno-style backing music is dropped in favour of the mellifluous, sonorous tones of internal combustion. Bravo, chaps - bravo.

scary to think you can have a GT3 rally prepped for same price as a 'historic' Escort...!!!

Some great shots of airbourne then bottoming exhausts!!

you can see where 4wd would and longer travel suspension would help them. Shame Porsche seems to have no inching to go into rallying again

suprisingly I found myself distracted while this was playing, no 959 Rothmans car here.
Perhaps not the best choice for rally cars!?

GT3 is a pretty capable tarmac rally car.

I'm biased but that was great. The GT3 is lots of fun on 2nd and 3rd gear roads. It reminds me of my drives through my local mountain roads - although I'm a lot slower even if it doesn't feel like it... smile

Given the kind of restrictions they'd have to adhere to, can you blame them?

The GT2/3 road car program is run by the bonefide motorsport division that develops the LMP2s and such like so I suspect they're involved with the customer cars to a certain extent. Would be great to see a factory effort back in rallying, but that would need a big international event and the WRC rules wouldn't really suit Porsche I fear.

WTF !? So you're on Pistoneads. There is video of one of the most iconic sports cars ever, with engines and full chat, being driven hard on less than forgiving roads and surfaces, and you weren't stirred, or even interested !?

I am somewhat confused and exasperated.

EDITED: Ah, now I get it. Sorry louismchuge, after seeing your profile, I can understand the lethargy. After all, what can rival the sheer excitement of wafting in an large brown Jaguar. wink

allways wondered what a fully prep'ed 4WD porsche turbo could do at the puike peak. 900-1000bhp, 4wd and GT levles of aero would be cool! smile

What a refreshingly superb video. I fail to see how any self-proclaimed car enthusiast can not like that, porsche fan or not.

Rallying needs someone like porsche to come in and make it worth watching againyes

The driving's great, but those Porsche engines sound bloody awful - like a wasp in a jam jar.

Give me a big V8 anyday! At least there's some BASS!
