Hi,
Does anyone have a quick answer on how to adjust the handbrake travel on a 944 S2? It's probably got about 7 clicks travel on it, which I think will be an MOT fail. Searched the net but haven't found anything yet.

Thanks

i think there is a ratchet mech at tdc inside the bell of the rear disk accessed by a hole in the disk. Simillar set up to bmw's. Hope this helps a bit torch and slotted screw driver should be all you need.

7 clicks may be ok for the mot (4 clicks is recommended by porsche). However these cars usually fail on inefficient operation - mainly because of poor adjustment.

To do the job properly move the drivers seat forwards, pull carpet flap out of the way behind handbrake lever. Use pliers to pull the spring off the front, slacken off the locknut (10mm and 14mm spanners). Now slacken off both nuts almost to the ens of the threaded cable.
Remove rear wheels, use a torch & looking through the hole in the brake disc locate the adjuster. Use a screwdriver to wind the adjuster until the shoes lock on the inside of the disc. Now back off half a turn, repeat for both sides. It is important that they are backed off equally both sides.
Now readjust it at the lever end to around 4 clicks. make sure it doesn't bind when off & pulls both brakes on equally.
Thats about it, however its not unusual for the mechanism to seize, requiring removal of the disc. The mechanism is very fiddly to work on.
