Pic Of The Week: A Truly Super GT-R

A car to send Nissan GT-R fans weak at the knees

If we're honest, the latest Nismo Clubsport version of the R35 Nissan GT-R sounds like a bit of a damp squib. Especially since it seems unlikely to have much in the way of stripped-out lightweight attitude.

Admittedly a GT-R damp squib is going to be a lot less damp and squib-like than many a so-called sports car, but we can't help feeling like it's a bit of a missed opportunity.

Still, every cloud and all that...because sitting alongside the Clubsport GT-R at the Tokyo Auto Salon tuning show will be the 2008 Xanavi Nismo GT-R racer.

This stunning racer was campaigned in the 2008 Japanese Super GT championship and, although rear-wheel drive and a 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 hardly make it a proper GT-R, they do make it a very proper piece of kit. Why can't all racing cars be like this?

Normal (1280x1024)
Widescreen (1440x900)
Supersize (2048x1536)

Interesting that the Nismo UK GT-R running at Spa-24 last year was also RWD and a NA V8. Not much faith in the twin-turbo V6 and 4WD?

I bet that does need 11K worth of repairs if you stuff the front end at low speeds.

Did I tell you about the time I was driving mine at over three times the speed limit (but it was late at night so don't worry) and the Police stopped me but just told me how much they loved my GT-R and let me go as long as I wheelspinned it every gear and the car is definitely mine and not my Dad's or nuffin?

In standard form the GT-R isnt eligible for the FIA GT1 championship. 4WD is banned as are turbo charged engines. Pretty certain there will be a GT-R running at the N24 in regular guise this year.

What a car...Will they have to make any for the road for homologation purposes? Lets hope so, although with the V-spec coming in at £120k I can only imagine what this may demand...

I don't know, but you should be able to give coppers some amazing dreams with it.
