Goodwood To Host Motor Show Event

Report suggests plans afoot for pre-FoS exhibition

Goodwood House - new show venue?
Goodwood House - new show venue?
Goodwood is preparing to launch a motor show-style event the day before the Festival of Speed this year.

According to a report from Autocar, a range of manufacturers will bring along new models for potential punters to poke and prod. 2010 FoS 'featured brand' Alfa Romeo is also said to be using the show to debut the Giulietta (though it was due for launch at the Festival the next day anyway!). The event will also apparently feature a 3.5-mile test route to allow members of the public to test-drive potential purchases.

Tickets to the event may end up being distributed exclusively by manufacturers and exhibitors rather than going on general public sale, though this has not yet been decided according to the Autocar article.

PH rang Goodwood's press office to firm up the news this morning, but we can find nobody available to comment.

News of the show comes in a year that the SMMT is not holding an official British International Motor Show, owing to a lack of enthusiasm and confidence from manufacturers.

The official show is rumoured to be returning for 2011 at the NEC, so a show at Goodwood may just fill the gap before the SMMT get back on the horse.

I'm a GRRC member and I've not heard about this.

They are doing some music/fashion/motoring event in August spanning the decades 5 or 6 decades.

Since FoS is already 90% motor show and 10% action it doesn't sound like much of a change to me.

Since its only the day before the FoS, I presume many of the exhibits will be part of both - the assembly and breakup time would surely make it a tough turnaround otherwise!

Perhaps it'll be more like the FoS opening a day early, but without the motorsport 'main exhibits' - just the glossy stands that are usually there anyway (remember Alfa's 'Showroom' last year - it was massive!) with added test drives.

This would really be a great idea, In the past I've found myself going round the 'infield' exhibits only with the worry I will miss something out on track. This way you could have a good browse around ALL of it, with out missing anything. I would be more than happy to get a low cost, semi crowd free extra day ! and lets face it can it really rain for FOUR days ?

Some info i picked up from The local radio today..

Details of this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed have been announced.

The 2010 event will start a day earlier - on Thursday 1st July, through to Sunday 4th - with a so-called moving motorshow.
There'll also be a celebration of cars and music - with vehicles that have inspired songs and guitars from famous petrol head musicians.
In a news conference, Lord March also revealed more about the theme: "We celebrate the all-consuming fascination for motor racing, with a major nod towards Italy's influence on the sport.

"It includes us celebrating the centenary of one of our most legendary marks - Alfa Romeo."
