Am I being a muppet - 997 side/running lights?
Discussion
Folks, I have seen a few 997s driving around with the entire strip of side lights/indicator lights illuminated (circled in photo). I quite like this look but unless I am doing something stupid (which is entirely possible) I don't have this option on my car.
Can anyone help?
Also, for those who do have this "feature", how does this interfere with your front indicators (i.e. if all lights on this stip are illuminated do they simply flash when you indicate)?
Cheers,
Gixxer

Here's a post-install video of the speedART Daytime Running Light setup for the 997 Turbo. This converts the stock turn signals to bright white LED DRLs, while retaining the stock functions, including the parking lights.

Damn that Audi R8 for starting the fad for these - in my view - truly awful "fairy lights". In all other respects the R8 looks great but every time I see one it just grates me to see those naff lights. I noticed them on the Gen2 997 the other day in pictures and it was a sad sad day - PLEASE tell me you can switch them off, even if your main lights are on??
Now of course every marque has stuck em on any old euro box and it does my head in! I saw a curved strip of them on a bloody base model A3 the other day and it looked SO WRONG! middle of the day, bright winter sunshine, and some tosser tooling down the road with his little twinkly lights on - grrrrrr!

I know though also own an Audi A6 and I love the fact that people hate me because of my DRLs
(they can be configured to be off though, so I'd be surprised if the genII 911 ones had to stay on all the time).

I have to say they don't go down well with people.
I have a Golf that insists on having its day running lights on and people flash me all of the time to either to tell me to turn them off or let me know their on.
I don't like them on any car but I hear very soon we will have no choice.

Pass a gen 2 997 regularly with the LED lights on. Don't think they look particularly great.
Hate the way people are retro fitting LED lights to their cars........ it really doesn't look any better.
Same as the fog light thing... it just makes it look like you don't know what the switches do in the car.... stupid in other words.
Any one who actually cares about cars knows that it is retro fit any way and not some high spec vehicle.
If they say it is for safety reasons then just turn on your normal lights!

From memory on the Gen 2 you select the option for daylight running lights from the setup menu on the speedometer display, the option to select them doesnt appear in the PCM options. Its not available on the Gen 1Can anyone help?

It's a naff fad by the way.
Not a fad I'm afraid, it's the law from next year that all new cars produced have daylight running lights.Porsche have simply introduced them early, as have RR, BMW, Audi, Ford and a few others I can't remember.

I've turned mine off now through the 'puter. Can't stand them.
(Although I have to admit they are handy with the closing speeds on a track day, would be even w@nkier if one were to have their dipped on!!)
I guess they are for Autobahn hooning when you might be closing on a car at over 100mph?
