Following a question from a potential buyer, I have just checked the engine number on my TVR.

The number is : 06 07 P6 36 XXXX

I understand that the numbers are defined as:
First two chars are the year: 06
Second set of two chars are the the week built: 07 (3rd week in February)
Third set of two chars are the engine conf: P6 (straight 6)
Fourth set of chars, engine size: 36 (3.6)
Remaining four chars engine serial number xxxx

Can anyone confirm if this is correct!

All to cock wink, the number you quoted is the body/paint code, the text you quoted refers to the VIN / chassis number (It'll begin SD...). The engine number is yet another number..

The plate in the engine bay clearly states that as the Engine No, so does the logbook. I also have the VIN numbers which does start SDL.....

The body/paint code is LECH 115

IIRC You are correct for a Speed Six...stamped on the water pump and sometimes a brass plate...Also usually has the initials of the engine builder(s).
VINs and Engine Numbers are completely different, as on RV8s... similar code on RV8 engines (one identifies a TVR engine rather than Land Rover for example)
