Guys

I wrote about this problem befor but unfortunately it was not solved. My chim in Cyprus will not start at all. The red light of the immobilizer is always on and it refuses to switch off. i have pressed key from my remote control several thosands of times but it does not respond. It doesnt even lock. when i insert the key and tern it i cannot hear the fuel pump come into life.

I have spent a couple of hours to change the battery because i thought that may be the problem. the reason i did that is because, befor the battery went completetly flat i have used the jump leads to start it (directly on the battery though because it seemed that the leads in the bonet couldnt do the job). and it started. The red light of the immobilizer went off when i presse the button on the remote control and it came into life.

So my thoughts now is that there is something wrong with the immobilizer since neither the central locking or the fuel pump do not respond.

Can someone tell me how to disable the immobilizer or completely disconnect it. Where can i find it.

Or even better if someone had this problem before HOW DID YOU SOLVE IT.

Guys pls help me, I cant trust any mechanic in Cyprus to take it. When i tell them TRV they say "Oh yes Triumph.....". I want to take my car for a ride and it's been sitting for 3 weeks now....

Do you know that the battery in the key fob is sound? My guess, given that you are not getting a lock/unlock response is this should be your first check.

Secondly - and depending upon which alarm is fitted - do you not have a manual "key"-type thingy to plug in somewhere? Both my (Meta-alarmed) TVRs have this.

A few thoughts:

1. Change the battery in the key fob. With the new battery in try pressing the unlock button with the outer case off - the button is a switch on a circuit board, on my fob the outer button didnt quite make contact so this is worth a try

2. Reset the alarm - Take the earth off the car battery for 5 seconds, reconnect then immediately press the alarm unlock button. But do step 1 first.

3. Use the over-ride. Depending on the model year you may have an immobiliser over-ride. On my 97 model its a slot next to the ignition switch into which I insert a plastic 'key' to disable the immobiliser

Yeah that is what i would try sounds like you need it re programmed if its the Meta system? but the key fob shoul override it to get you by.

Guys thanks for the repies.

My chim is late 1995

1 the light on my keyfob does come on when i press it

2. i have tried the reset since i have chnged the battery and pent 2 hours to put it back

Cant find anything next to the ignition switch to disable the immobilizer. is there any way to disconnect the immobilizer. where is it located. could this be an ECU problem (dont thik so though)

Juat because the light comes on when the button is pressed doesnt mean there's enough juice in the battery to send a good signal. I know that when my battery gets low it wont unlock the chim unless I hold the remote close to the receiver. This appears to be located on the passenger side of teh car (discovered through trial and error). Try sitting in the passenger seat holding the remote near the door as that seems to work best for me.

Worth a try anyway.

Oh and dont just press the button quickly, press and hold it for a second or two.

Will your engine crank on the starter motor? If it does I don't think it's the immobiliser,my immobiliser packed up on my 98 Chimaera,I had to disconnect the multiplug and bridge the terminals to get the engine running.

Hi Manolis,

My Chimaera did the same thing a few weeks ago, new fob batteries did nothing to solve the fault.

Clearly my infra red key fob had completely died.

The nice AA man drove me home to get the spare keys and everything was solved.

Because I felt having just one key fob was risky I got Mr Baker involved.

Two new fobs and the resetting of the immobiliser to read the fobs and problem was completely solved.

A bonus is that I can now unlock the car from six feet away instead six inches.

Call Mr Baker and see what he says, he is a top bloke who knows his TVR alarms.

I had this a couple of months backfrown

The immobiliser now sits at the bottom of a dustbin somwhere...

I tried to trace the fault, but just gave up in the end and ripped the whole thing out..

Reconnected Fuel Pump, Starter and Air flow meter & now everything works againsmile

Does your remote have two buttons next to each other and an LED in a corner on it?

The alarm fitted is Foxguard so most of what is posted above does not apply here. All the parts are still available if needed, so it is just a question of working out if it has packed up.

What exactly is it doing or not doing?
Do you have two remotes or only the one?
Have you replaced the battery and checked it is the full 12v?
Does the remote LED work when you hold either button down?

It sound as though your immobilisers dead, disconnect the immobiliser mutilpug and bridge the correct wiring pins, this is what I had to do to mine.
