I just watched a couple of episodes of Miami Vice last night and God I love that show. Anyway it got me thinking where is the car now? I know the Daytona was blown up but where’s the 2 Testarossa’s they used?
Also, I thought I read somewhere that they producers removed the Ferrari engines and swapped them for cheap ford (or similar) units to "ease running costs". Anyone know if that's true?

Thanks

no, but they did use a 3rd 'stunt car' which was a DeTomaso Pantera based replica (which does of course have a ford engine)

Ive no idea about the Testarossa. but AFAIK the Daytona wasn't real - it was a kit, based on a 'Vette from memory but I wouldn't stake my life on it.

As with Robin Masters's 308, there are a few cars claiming to be the Miami Vice Testarossa, confusingly including a Testarossa later given to Johnson by Ferrari. One of the originals is owned by the Henn family who own the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop, the car collection is pretty good and worth a detour if your ever near smile

The show also used a DeTomaso Pantera based replica for some of the action scenes

My favourite episode was the one with the bad guy who happened to be a racing driver. Cue gratuitous car chase with the bad guy in some full on race car on the streets of Miami.

From the episode 'Florence Italy' as I recall. </g33k>

The racing drivers are supposed to be racing in 'Formula 1' but it looks like GT racing to me. And the dad and son have a motorcycle race through a multi storey car park on Kawasaki GPz600Rs which never actually get leant over, and its funny how two 'formula 1' drivers are also ace motorcycle riders too?

Its probably the second worst episode of Miami vice, after the one where James Brown is actually an alien (Its called 'Missing Hours' if you want to look it up).

Apologies, I'm a Miami Vice Geek! smile

If you like the Daytona (McBurnie) watch the end of 'Out where the buses don't run".

Yeah but it's got a lot of ALMS cars in it, which makes up for a lot.

What was the episode called which had the Pete Gabriel track on it "We do what we're told"? Brilliant song.

I don't know the song very well, but I'm going to take a guess at 'Evan'.

[edit] Apparently it was featured in 'Forgive us our debts' and 'Deliver us from evil'. Its "Rhythm of the heat" that I'm thinking of. Forgive us our debts and deliver us from evil are the 'Frank Hackman' episodes where a psychopath is about to be executed in Prison but Crockett uncovers some new evidence that, although guilty of many murders is actually innocent of the crime for which he was sentenced to death. A great pair of episodes. I also like Mirror Image 1 and 2 where Crockett loses his memory and believes he is his drug dealing cover alter ego, Sonny Burnett. Fantastic! I hated the Testarossa and thought it was much more realistic for an undercover cop to be issued with a replica Ferrari Daytona Spyder than a genuine testarossa...[edit]

Damn you, I just wasted half an hour of my life watching Miami Vice videos on YouTube, and now have Smugglers Blues going round inside my head hehe

Damn, how cool was Miami Vice! The day after the programme there was only ever 1 subject of conversation among the lads at school.

I know that, I was trying to avoid the dreaded spoiler! Damn you, you've spoiled it for EVERYBODY.

If you want me to spoil it more, crockett shoots him in cold blood at the end. wink

Umm, James Brown's face disappears and turns into a picture of clouds... "Jump Back, ooow! Wait a minute!"

I've got it on DVD! biggrin
