My 2008 Cayman S has a Knock / rattle coming from behind the passengers seat or engine compartment when travelling over bumpy roads. My local OPC have had the car for three days without any joy of solving the problem. Is there anyone else who have had this problem or any ideas of what it could be?

I've just replaced the o/s rear forked arm on our 986s (Boxster). When thoroughly warm the car made a rattling noise over rough roads just like pool balls being potted. Our car is older though - 2003 - with 37000 miles on it. Been rattling several miles though...

When it first started making a noise, the OPC we purchased from couldn't find a fault. Local indy sussed it straight away.

HTH.

I had a rattle at the rear of my Cayman over bumps. It was the rear hatch and I wound down the two stops which are fitted in the hatch and it's ok now. I do believe the stops have now been modified.

Talking of rr hatch rattle, somewhat off topic but my Focus Estate tailgate rattled like mad on any slight bump. A small dab of grease on the latch "receiver" cured it instantly. No adjustment needed.

As you were.

This sounds like the infamous Cayman 'trunk clunk'. If you Google it you will find quite a bit on it.

Sounds like 'Trunk Clunk' to me! Mine has just started doing it. Only on certain surfaces. Sounds like the hatch isn't shut properly? It's the weights in the rear hatch. See link below:

There has been a TI bulletin out for a while now detailing a noise from the airbox in the engine bay, the airbox mounts are either insecure or unfavourable tolerances allow the airbox to make contact with the body. Get them to check there if they haven't already.

I have a rattle from left rear too

Isolated it down to coming from rear light cluster

In there is a box about 6 inches x 3 , it is on the end of a cable and appears to have been stuck on with some double sided tape

not idea what it is and as yet have not had chance to figure where it goes and to resecure it

Great news. After checking out all the possiblities it seems my rattle was coming from the rear light cluster and boot lid. With a few minor adjustments the problem has been solved. Many thanks to all.
