I just wanted to say a big thanks to Nightmare for looking after me when it came to getting my engagement ring sorted.

After lots of searched on here (after all PH is the font of all knowledge) I found Nightmare. I was going to buy my ring / diamond online because Bluenile & the like are so temptingly cheap, but instead Nightmare directed me to his jewellers in Hoddesdon and his business partner Matt.
Matt had selected several diamonds for me and filtered those down to 3 by the time I got to see them. He talked through each stone and got me to look at them through the lens pointing out there pluses & minuses.

We selected a stone and then designed a ring together which for me was a simple design but had the letter ‘S’ as the clasp that help the stone in (S being the first initial of the other half’s first name)

Paid a less than the retail value yet had a bespoke ring that I had been a part of designing. So glad I didn’t buy an unseen diamond off the internet – different stones with the same carat rating look so different.

The Mrs loves it and has been complemented many times already.

Thanks Nightmare, you’re a legend!!!!

Any pictures, sounds interesting.

I contacted them last year but they never returned my email, I've since purchased a Diamond from Australia & had the stone put in a custom setting (Hatton Garden).

Doesn't sound like Nightmare, he always got back to me straight away.

Out of interest, how did Australia compare to the UK in terms on pricing? I'm currently in Sydney and popped the question there, so took the ring from the UK!

Pix as requested (sorry not great quality):-

On par with UK online sites for stones - very very pleased with the stone. The setting I wanted completed in the UK for obvious reasons smile.

Congratualations that ring looks lovely!

Howard and Matt are both great when it comes to helping PH'ers! (Invoice is in the post guys wink) Much like yourself, we were sourced a superb stone and paid huge amounts less than retail (less than US retail too!)

Matt made my Wife's engagement ring and both of our wedding rings. We are going up to the shop on Saturday to discuss having an old heirloom remade actually!

Matt made my wifes engagement ring to my design as well as both our bespoke wedding bands and a set of bespoke cufflinks (surprise wedding pressie from my wife). His work is fantastic and his attention to detail spot on.
I never met Nightmare (wasn't even aware he was Matts business partner) but did have some advice from him in the early stages of buying the stone.

IMHO Matts one of the few proper old fashioned jewellers ans silversmiths still around and I'd recommend his work to anyone!

yes

Having seen both the ring and the cufflinks first hand I have to say that they are very, very good.

Thank you all very much.

I hope those who have dealt with us know that making people happy really is our first concern. Its just great being able to help out people from here and I think we've been so lucky with how amazing our pistonheads customers have been - it is interesting how this forum has gathered some really nice people together in one place!

I hope we continue to help out - whether just advice or actual things - for many years to come!

Jase - huge congrats on your awesome proposal! made me grin all afternoon smile

GJC - if you emailed me then I can only apologise. I really try to get back to everyone as quickly as possible and I didn't think I had missed one. I would strongly advise people to email me, rather then Equinox directly for that pistonheads personal service....

huge thanks to everyone for their kinds words smile

Went up to see Matt yesterday as mentioned earlier. He cleaned and re-polished my Wife's engagement and wedding ring and then refinished my wedding ring (it's a brushed finish and had worn smooth.) All for no charge!
Also left an old heirloom with him that is going to be a little "project" and get modified/remade/added to. Top service yet again.

Just wanted to revive this old thread to offer Nightmare my thanks too - I PM'd him on the strength of this and one or two old threads and he and Matt and the other guys at 'Equinox' were able to make up a gorgeous ring featuring a beautiful stone.

I proposed on Christmas Day and the missus accepted immediately and loves the ring (and the earrings I bought at the same time to put her off the scent on Xmas morning).

Great service from really nice blokes, and also a very very competitive price - I can't recommend them highly enough. If you go to the shop, ask to see the Seiko clock behind the counter 'do its thing'. That, in itself, is an experience...

Same thing happened to me, so Dominic got my business too.
