seems like there is not many current builders, almost no questions on build and material, either the fatory manual had a work over or the crisis has hit the ultima community too ?

I'm not finding enough time to progress my build very rapidly so not many questions requiring answers. Also the various build sites can often provide the assistance needed (a picture can be worth a thousand words).

However, the help of this forum can be invaluable at times and long may it continue.

The STILL(no matter what is reported in the press or by the self serving pocket lining corrupt officials we call politicians) failing economy is causing problems for everyone to some degree. It caused my businesses huge problems last year, the people i knew who were not having any problems last year certainly are now.... the country is on the edge of an even deeper financial hole IMO... whether we get out of it or not is anyones guess atm....
Most customers expect prices to decrease due to the state of the economy, but its just not the case overall as the £ has taken on up the khyber, the costs to suppliers are stil increasing, hidden stealth taxes are still being imposed(especially on the motorist - how much is fuel duty now??) and who knows whats going to happen to tax and vat later this year or next.
Oddly at the moment the majority of people I know in in the motor servicing game seem to be bucking the trend and are reasonably busy - generally i think its the middle to low band earners keeping them busy for whom buying an new car simply isnt an option anymore.

Regarding Ultimas I certainly have seen an increase in the sale of part finished or bare chassis up for sale in the past 6 months.. and completed cars that are at top end prices seem to be hanging around a lot longer too.

sorry....just thought on... you only asked where all the new builders are..

oh yes I have similar thoughts and could not agree on more what you said, we are being lied to all day long. The american banks are preparing to crush the euro like they did with the pound and our stupid politicians cannot do nothing, considering that there only goal is how they get reelected...............
Gladly I have customers that are in the control part of economy and they seem just to be fine.........

I reckon there are plenty of new builders - they just don't post on here - an example is kwatson who posted for the first time a week ago, having bought his kit in November.

I think it should be part of the deal when you buy from the factory, that you have to register on the forum (even if you don't post)

Just my opinion.

The factory certainly seems to be busy so there must be quite a few new customers part way through their build.

The exchange rate to Canada is silly at presnet, I only need $1.55 for a Quid...eek
Was over $2 when I came here, and used to be $2.50......

So they should be exporting more at present.....

I'm exactly in the same situation. Build is not progressing as it should. On the other hand, we (the new builders) still need your help! smile

Hello all. I'm a new builder, having picked up a chassis which came up on ebay late last year. I'd jumped the gun slightly as I'm still building the garage to house my build but thats what happens when you go on ebay after a few bottles of wine.

Probably have two to three full days of building work left then my mother in law can have her garage back and I can get cracking. It won't be the fastest build due to work pressures and my wife expecting our second child in August.

Anyway, my aim is to reach the rolling chassis stage before then. About 80% of the panelling has already been done. I'm an unashamed lurker.

Excellent observation... triggered me to post!

Was at 90% late last Sept, then decided I'd wait until this year to finish/register due to weather... the last 10% has taken an age... time limited really due to business trips and getting out of the habit of ording little bits in advance so a 2 mins job turned into a 2 week one, and the final 10 jobs growing to final 20, then slowly back! Week booked off pre-easter for finishing and IVA... got the mojo back now!

Just gathering parts at the moment. My chassis is supposed to be shipped this month. Looking forward to getting started. Thank you to those who have already answered some questions for me.

Get in contact with Spatz. He built a CanAm and is in the process of registration with the TüV.

SchimmS is your man, or contact me, but be aware that I am waiting for better wheather, but seems that I will
go ahead next week, spring is on its way. Car is complete and ready to roll, just have been adding heat shields to the CATs
as they were burning my rubber sleeves from the drive shafts
